Regular AAC CoffeeHouses with networking time and "show-and-tell" are held in borrowed space at 7 p.m. on the first Thursday of every month. These gatherings bring new opportunities, gossip, and workshops every month. This spring, we will gather in a different AAC member's home around the St Albans area starting February 6 at Corliss Blakely's. Watch this space for details.
The Elder Art Show begins Monday with an opening at St Albans City Hall, 12-3pm. The work will then be displayed from April 15-30 at Barbara's Bouquets, Better Planet Books, Toys and Hobbies, Chow Bella, Franklin Lamoille Bank, Garden Patch, Gift Gallery, Jeff's Seafood, Lorraine's, Rail City Market, and the Sugar Mill Antique Mall and Gallery. The show will conclude with a display in the AAC Fine Art exhibit at City Hall during the Vermont Maple Festival. ART IN THE WINDOWS AND ON THE WALLS
"We will have 3-4 works in each store, along with a walking tour maps," said Mark Montalban, "Please come by and see our success with this winter's class at the Barlow Street Center."
The Elder Art Program is a statewide non-profit arts organization for artists age 55 and older with St Albans classes lead by artist educator Mark Montalban. e-mail for more info.

AN EVENT FOR TOM--Greg Brown will perform a special benefit concert at Higher Ground in Winooski on Friday, April 14, to help raise funds for a bone marrow transplant for Tom Sustic. STUFF YOU SHOULDN'T MISS
Singer/songwriter Greg Brown had a banjo playing grandfather and an electric guitar playing mother. His father was a Holy Roller preacher where Gospel and music are a way of life. He has recorded more than a dozen award winning albums and his songs have been performed by Willie Nelson, Carlos Santana, Michael Johnson, Shawn Colvin, and Mary Chapin Carpenter.
The son of Deborah Travis and Mark Sustic, Tom is battling high risk Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. He has spent time at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington, the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in New Hampshire, the Dana Farber Cancer Institute in Boston, and Milwaukee Children's Hospital in Wisconsin. He continues to be hospitalized every other week for intensive chemotherapy and monitoring.
There will be two shows of the Greg Brown benefit concert at 7 p.m. and 10 p.m. at Higher Ground. Visit for information about this and other Events for Tom. JEFFERSONVILLE--The Cambridge CoffeeHouse presents Open Mike Night (acoustic) at Smugglers Notch Inn in Jeffersonville from 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, April 19. The original art of Michael Domina will be on display.
The Cambridge Arts Council sponsors the CoffeeHouse. Admission is free but donations are appreciated. e-mail for info.
VIETNAM WAR (April 21)--This juried show will present a body of work by artists who have been directly influenced by their war experience. VISUAL ARTS GRANTS (May 1)--Elizabeth Foundation for the Arts grants are open to artists in all media except photography, video/film, and crafts. Applicants must be 30+ or have been working for at least 6 years since completing formal schooling. Only 12 to 15 grants are awarded per year. e-mail for required application
THE ARTIST'S MAGAZINE'S 2000 ANNUAL ART COMPETITION (May 1)--Offers over $16,000 in cash prizes for amateur and professional artists in five categories: Portraits, Landscapes, Still Life, Experimental Art and Animal Art. NORTHERN NATIONAL ART COMPETITION (May 20)--This Nicolet College exhibit is open to all two-dimensional art with over $8500.00 in prizes. e-mail for info.
WRITER'S DIGEST'S 69th ANNUAL WRITING COMPETITION (May 31)--Offers more than $25,000 in prizes in ten categories. Grand-prize winner will receive $1,500 cash and the choice of a trip to New York City to meet with editors and agents or a trip to the 2001 Maui Writers Conference. Entry fee. That little snowfall we had earlier this week should get us all thinking about the Vermont Maple Festival. The Festival has Maple Exhibits, demonstrations, a Craft Show, an Fine Art Show, and a Carnival, the famed Youth Talent Show, singing and dancing on Main Street, and the scrumptious pancake breakfast.
