Stop in for live music and more at the Fairfax Music Sessions at the Foothills Bakery in Fairfax most Saturday afternoons at 1 p.m., at ChowBella or at the Overtime Saloon in St Albans 8-10 p.m. most Wednesday evenings, at the Bayside in St Albans Town most Sunday afternoons, and the Cambridge CoffeeHouses at 7 p.m. on the first and third Wednesday of every month.
These gatherings bring new opportunities, gossip, "show-and-tell" and occasional workshops. The booked performances and acoustic Open Mike Nights feature music, readings, and more from the best new artists in Vermont.
ENOSBURG FALLS--The Enosburg Town Band will hold a benefit concert Sunday afternoon at the Enosburg Opera House. The concert will benefit the American Red Cross and recent hurricane victims. BENEFIT CONCERTS
"It will be a light program," said Enosburg Town Band music director and conductor Alisa Martin. "It's meant for enjoyment."
The program features The Liberty Bell and Washington Post March by John Philip Sousa, a Star Spangled Spectacular, When The Saints Go Marching In, a medley of pieces by George M. Cohan, plus God Bless America, a concert march by Gustav Holst. the Swing-a-Roo Polka, Basin Street Blues, and The Band Played On, some Country & Western, a tribute to Glenn Miller, and a Patriotic Sing-a-Long, a medley of patriotic selections.
Tim Stetson, Director of Emergency Services for the Northern Vermont Chapter plans to say a few words about the Red Cross effort. The Town Band also has an associated sax quartet and a small brass group which may play.
The Enosburg Town Band Benefit will begin at 2 p.m. Admission is free by donation. "Since the proceeds are going to the Red Cross relief effort, we need monetary donations, not goods," Ms. Martin said.
LEBANON, NH--The Events for Tom Series presents the second and final Musician-to-Musician Relief Benefit Concert for the Lafayette Music Alliance featuring Paul Asbell, Mark LeGrand and His Lovesick Band, Planet Zydeco, Chris Kleeman, Jeremiah McLane with Monica Robelotto and Phil Carr, emcee Mark Hauser from the Point, and other special guests. The concert starts Saturday at 7 p.m. at the Lebanon Opera House.
If you want to make a weekend of it in Lebanon, catch Arlo Guthrie and the Mammals at the Lebanon Opera House in Lebanon on Friday evening.
The earlier concert at the Flynn was the 38th activity in the Events for Tom Series, and the first of two benefits arranged by Mark Sustic of Fairfax with musician friends in Louisiana and Vermont. Lebanon is a long drive, but this is the last opportunity to see this particular group of nationally known performers on a nearby stage. And it's for a good cause as well.
"It is an attempt both to raise funds for the critical needs of musicians in the Gulf," Mr. Sustic said, "and an opportunity for musicians in Vermont to acknowledge an artistic debt to the blues, Cajun, Zydeco, country and other traditions originating in the Gulf region." All the performers donated their time and talents to the cause and others have donated equipment, supplies, time, publicity support and other resources. Concert proceeds will go to the Lafayette Music Alliance, a group established to help displaced New Orleans musicians with financial, medical and housing needs.
"The music and setting [of the Flynn concert] were more than I had envisioned," Mr. Sustic said. "Chip Wilson brought an element of immediacy to the evening with his personal stories of how a New Orleans-based musician has been knocked squarely on his heels by being displaced for the past month." Mr. Wilson considers himself one of the lucky ones, with a good network of friends and supporters.

MONTGOMERY-- Montgomery Historical Society presents Even We Here: An Evening with Abraham Lincoln next Wednesday, October 19, at 7 p.m. in the Town Hall (Grange). Actor Michael Fox-Kennedy assumes Lincoln's persona for an evening exploring the man and his times. ON STAGE LIVE
Admission is free by donation and the program is open to all. Town Hall is on Route 118 Montgomery Center.
BURLINGTON--Queen City Contras will hold a Contra Dance with caller Mark Sustic and musicians Sarah Blair and Colin McCaffrey tomorrow evening at 8 p.m. at St. Anthony’s Church Hall. A beginners session will begin at 7:45 p.m. Call 802.434.2446 for info.
BRADFORD--The Nobby Reed Project plays Middle Earth on Saturday evening.
Legendary Vermont blues man Nobby Reed has always been about playing the guitar. Banjo Dan and the Midnite Plowboys have played the Summer Sounds concert series, as well as other Franklin County venues over the years.
