These gatherings bring new opportunities, gossip, "show-and-tell" and occasional workshops. The booked performances and acoustic Open Mike Nights feature music, readings, and more from the best new artists in Vermont.
Celebrate St. Albans takes over Taylor Park on Saturday as arts groups, church groups, community groups, police and fire departments, school kids, and volunteer groups strut their stuff to show what they do. Taylor Park will overflow with art, music, activities, displays, and more from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. CELEBRATE, CELEBRATE, DANCE TO THE MUSIC
Listen to the music. See fine art by area artists. Check out the police cruisers, fire trucks and other vehicles on display. Enjoy the craft tables. Stroll around Downtown. There are three major art exhibits and a lineup of musical performances. The band list was not available at press time.
Celebrate St. Albans is coordinated by St. Albans For the Future with the assistance of the St. Albans Artist Guild, Coca Cola, and the Franklin County Regional Chamber of Commerce.
ST ALBANS--The Bishop Street Artists will host the sixth annual Art Show this weekend beginning tomorrow evening with a Meet the Artists reception 6-8 p.m. at St. Luke's Parish Hall in St. Albans. The show continues on Saturday during Celebrate St. Albans and closes Sunday morning.. ART ON THE (ST ALBANS) WALLS
About 20 local and regional artists are participating. The 2007 exhibitors include Eric Bataille, Jane Bower, Mary Ellen Bushey, Louise Counos, Carolyn Fouts, Barbara Hamm, April Henderson, Jill Jones, Ardyce Klette, Dorothy Lear, Beth Maginn, Marianne Marshall, Gladys Nokes, Frank Tirella, Jr. Doug Underwood, Karen Day-Vath, and Linda Wirts.
Bishop Street artists Jill Jones, Beth Maginn, and Jane Bower with the help of Madie Howard and support of director Colleen Condon have continued working with the Holiday House art group for its second year. Holiday House artists Carmella Bell, Laura Wood, Gladys Jarvis and Rollande Simard will show landscapes and mixed media work in the exhibit.
Many of the works will be for sale. The Bishop Street Artists meet Thursdays at St. Luke's Parish Hall in St. Albans. They bring art supplies, lunch, works-in-progress, show-and-tell items, and ideas to share their experience and expertise during the relaxed "studio" time.
The show hours are Friday, 6-8 p.m., Saturday, 10 a.m.-4 p.m., and Sunday, 9 a.m.-noon. It is co-sponsored by St. Luke's Episcopal Church and the Franklin County Regional Chamber of Commerce.

ST ALBANS--The new Staart Gallery (ST Albans ARTs) will hold an Open House downtown from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday. "The open house will run all day for artists to come check out the space and for the community to get its first peek," Stina Plant said.
Novelist and Messenger writer Leon Thompson will sign copies of his books, Good Junk and dork. – another look at my junk, at Staart from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m Saturday.
The Staart Gallery will be a permanent downtown home to see the best local art. Ms. Plant is building it to be fun, interactive and to make it easy to involve the community in the arts. Her initial call for artists will offer discounts on wall rentals for two-dimensional works.
"There's quite a bit of room because we have a lot of wall space," she said. They expect to have room to average about 40 artists.
The Staart plans weekly artist receptions, classes and artist talks. They offer a lounge and plenty of space to sell and enjoy original works and prints. The coffee bar is complete, has WiFi, and offers a place for people to sit and enjoy the surroundings.
"This is a pretty multi-functional space," she said. "It will not be the typical gallery where there is just stuff for sale. I want artists to be involved. I want them to be able to teach classes if they want so we have the community involved. I want people to feel comfortable here to just come and hang out."
The Staart is located downtown at 42 South Main Street, next door to the old post office. It opens formally on September 29. Call Stina Plant (802.524.5700) for more info or to reserve a space "on the walls."
TAYLOR PARK--The Saint Albans Artists' Guild presents Art in the Park as a major show for Celebrate St. Albans in Taylor Park. Works by 27 member artists will be on exhibit in several areas of the park.
Arts experts will conduct demonstrations in the Art in the Park tent. Norm Choiniere of Champlain Collections will frame art works at 10 a.m. Stina Plant will explain camera work to and for kids at 11 a.m. Keith Gallup will demonstrate artists' oil paints and brushes at noon. Linda deKoff will create an artistic book cover at 1 p.m. Other artists will paint in the area of the Ladies of Liberty Fountain throughout the day.
ST. ALBANS--On Saturday, the St. Albans Historical Museum will show a collection of old movies of the local festivals and parades of the 30s, 40s, and 50s. Photographers Pete Austin, Bert Vale and Edward Handley shot the films on locations in St. Albans, Swanton, St. Albans Bay, Georgia, Milton, and Burlington. ALMOST LIVE
The movie will be shown on Saturday at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. in the Bliss Auditorium at the Museum. The St. Albans Historical Museum will also be open. Call Dale Powers (802.527.7933) for more info.
ALBURGH--Jim Branca leads the Second Sunday Sing-a-long Suppers, an old fashioned pot-luck dinner, followed by an old fashioned sing-a-long featuring the old time tunes and classics on in the Alburgh Library at 5 p.m. on the second Sunday of each month through October. ON STAGE LIVE
"It's kinda like coming full circle for me," Mr. Branca said. He came from a "big loud family and my Dad's love of Barbershop tunes from the 1890's through the Tin-Pan Alley Era and a whole bunch of old folks croonin' 'round a piano are some of my first happy musical memories."
