Stop in for live music and more at the Fairfax Music Sessions at the Foothills Bakery in Fairfax most Saturday afternoons at 1 p.m., at various restaurants around Franklin County throughout the week, at the Bayside in St Albans Town most Sunday afternoons, and the Cambridge CoffeeHouses at 7 p.m. on the first and third Wednesday of every month.

These gatherings bring new opportunities, gossip, "show-and-tell" and occasional workshops. The booked performances and acoustic Open Mike Nights feature music, readings, and more from the best new artists in Vermont.
NEFA, the New England Foundation for the Arts, will hold seven dance exchanges in locations around New England. The exchanges are a stepping stone in the Regional Dance Development Initiative and are part of NEFA's National Dance Project. DANCE EXCHANGE FOR NEW ENGLAND
The one- to two-day exchanges will bring together local dance artists, teachers, presenters, funding agencies, advocates, and audiences to engage in dialogue around topics of significance in the field of dance. Each exchange will include performances by regional dance artists, facilitated discussions, as well as opportunities for community building, professional development, and networking. Each event is free.
Exchanges begin in March at Bates College, Lewiston, ME; Marlboro College, Brattleboro; and MASS MoCA, North Adams, MA. In April, exchanges will be held at the Perishable Theater, Providence, RI. The exchanges continue in May at St. Johnsbury Academy. The exchanges conclude in June at Concord Academy in MA; and the Festival of Arts and Ideas, ACES Theater, New Haven, CT. The events will generally take place between the hours of 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. with some optional evening activities. Lunch will be provided.

BURLINGTON--The First Fifty Art Exhibit is a group show of visual art in all mediums in the Art's Alive Gallery at Union Station. The 2008 edition of First Fifty has artists chosen by lottery at the Burlington Artist Meet-up. The exhibition is an opportunity for the public to be exposed to unfettered talent and is an opportunity for artists to show and introduce their work. Franklin County artists in the show include Lisamarie Charlesworth of St. Albans and Tinka Martell of Fairfax. ART ON THE WALLS
Each month, Art's Alive presents art from Vermont artists or arts organizations. the Gallery at Union Station shows Vermont artists and art from other artist groups. Last year, Art's Alive exhibited work by the All Arts Council, members of the Northern Vermont Artist Association, and Grassroots Art and Community Effort (GRACE).
The gallery is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 8 p. m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The event is part of the First Friday Art Walk.
ENOSBURG FALLS--The Artist In Residence Gallery features Donna Blatchly, Chepe Cuadra, Paule Gingras, and Pat Murphy this month and will host an artists' reception this evening from 5-8 p.m. at the gallery. Refreshments will be served. The exhibit runs through the month of February
The cooperative has paintings, fiber arts, stained glass, sculpture, lamps, pottery, folk art boxes, scarves, hats and more by 45 Franklin County and surrounding area artists. It is owned and operated by the artists and sponsors. The Village Frame Shoppe is located within the coop as a resident framer. The Blue Crayon, a small private studio, is available there for individual or small group lessons. The gallery, located at 349 Main Street, is open Wednesday-Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
ST ALBANS--The Northwestern Medical Center Gallery hosts Denise Beers this month with an exhibit of landscape photographs, including Taylor Park, as well as sea-side scenes of the Cape Cod. This is her first time "on the wall" at NMC; she has exhibited extensively in other galleries.
The show continues through the end of February.
ST. ALBANS--The Staart Gallery (ST. Albans ARTs) is a place to show, sell, teach, create, and enjoy art. Artists hold "meet and greets" on weekends. Staart hosts a rotating exhibit of student art with work by art students from BFA-St. Albans.
The Staart Gallery has a prime downtown location for weekly artist receptions, classes and artist talks, a comfortable upscale environment complete with couches and WiFi, a gallery with a dedicated marketing budget, and space to sell original works and prints.
The gallery is next to the old post office at 42 South Main Street.
BURLINGTON--The Queen City Contras present a contra dance with caller Rebecca Lay and musicians Will Patton of Bakersfield, Brendan Taaffe, and Pete Sutherland in at St. Anthony’s Hall tomorrow evening at 8 p.m. There will be a beginner's session at 7:45 p.m. Call 802.434.2446 for more info. UNDERHILL--The Mount Mansfield Unitarian Universalist Fellowship presents a community dance with caller Mark Sustic and musicians Sarah Hotchkiss and John Mowad at the Browns River Middle School on Sunday afternoon from 2 to 4 p.m. Call 802.899.2436 for more info.
HINESBURG--Vermont's Cajun band, Yankee Chank, will appear at Good Times Cafe on Wednesday from 8-10:30 p.m.
Yankee Chank performs traditional Cajun and Creole dance music from southwest Louisiana. The group includes Cannon Labrie, accordion, Jim Burns, guitar and fiddle, Bob Naess, fiddle, and Mark Sustic, bass and triangle. They play dances, festivals, concerts, parties, and weddings throughout New England. Email for more info.

Super Bowl XLII disappointed disappointed a legion of local Patriots fans but the biggest football game of the year is about much more than football and parties. It is about consumption. It is about selling America. It is about commercials and every 30-second spot offers the best ideas and the best art in the year of advertising.
Is it really art? Perhaps. It can certainly be entertaining. One company, GoDaddy, bought space to tell us what ad they would air only online. Here are all the other ads you may have missed.
