Earth Day is next Wednesday and what better way to celebrate than with a two-week musical celebration of Mud Season. ECHO at the Leahy Center for Lake Champlain offers live Muddy Music every day at One, plus muddy games and activities, and free chocolate ice cream. ECHO is Vermont's aquarium and science center on the waterfront in Burlington. GET DOWN AND MUDDY
Some of the Franklin County performers (or performers we have enjoyed here) include Gary Dulabaum this afternoon, Jon Gailmor on Saturday, and Jim Branca on Monday.
"There'll be lots of kids young and old and a variety of tunes, original and ancient, celebrating the gift of life, earth, water," Mr. Branca said. "Bring a young friend and check it out."
Mudfest:ECHO Earth Weeks began April 14 and will continue through April 27 from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. each day. All performances are at 1 p.m. and the concerts and other Muddy activities are free with ECHO admission.
FAIRFAX--IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT: A Murder will be (Announced) starting next Thursday as the Fairfax Community Theater Company presents the Miss Marple play adapted from the Agatha Christie novel at BFA-Fairfax. ON STAGE LIVE

SHELBURNE--Lake Champlain Waldorf School hosts a Family Contra Dance with caller Mark Sustic and musicians Pete and Karen Sutherland and the Lake Champlain Waldorf School Contra Dance Band at the Town Hall tomorrow evening from 7-9 p.m. Email for more info.
NEWPORT--Music for a Sunday Afternoon presents singer/songwriter Michele Choiniere with Will Patton, Dono Schabner and David Gusakov at St. Mark's Episcopal Church. All concerts in the series begin at 4 pm at the church. The suggested donation is $10 for the concert.

The Maple Festival and the American Red Cross have joined forces for a very sweet drawing next Saturday, April 26, only. The Red Cross donor bus will be parked at the Maple Festival BFA Exhibit Hall from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Donors will receive a free maple creemee at the Festival.
The entertainment schedule includes the Talent Show on Friday, the Fiddlers’ Variety Show on Saturday, and the annual Vermont Maple Festival Parade on Sunday. Buy your tickets for the Talent Show and the Fiddlers’ Variety Show early; these shows usually sell out. Tickets are available at the Franklin County Regional Chamber of Commerce at 2 North Main Street.
The Main Street stage will offer free performances by a ballet school, the Celtic rock band Prydein, Citizens Concert Band, Electric Youth Dance Company, Fiddleheads, Inseldudler-German Band, Joe Levesque Big Band, Keeghan Nolan Band, Marko the Magician, Run for Cover, St. Albans City School Band, storyteller Bill Shontz, and the Talent Show award winners.
WEEKEND ARTISTS (now)--Swanson's Farm and Nursery in Fairfax will feature artists on weekends between now and the Art in Bloom Festival in July. The Nursery will have a tent up and decorated and will arrange advertising. The weekend exhibits are free and act as a joint promotion between Swanson's and the artists. BOOK PUBLISHER SEEKS FINE ARTIST (May 10)--The Chester River Press, seeks an experienced artist to illustrate a fine letterpress limited edition publication of Homer's Iliad and Odyssey. The publisher wants an artist, with a strong working knowledge of Iliad, Odyssey, Greek Homeric period painting and drawing. Click here or email for more info.
TECHNOLOGY CONFERENCE POSTER COMPETITION (May 12)--KT Cultural Foundation and APEC Education Foundation co-host the 2008 APEC Information and Communication Technology Poster Competition with a theme of "Information and Communication Technology for Hope." MAKE YOUR OWN MOVIE (May 8)--Microsoft Corporation is underwriting an online movie-making contest to pump up sagging sales and to repair the reputation of the Windows Vista operating system. This call taps into the "user-generated content" marketing trend to reach videophiles and filmmakers.
computer users are invited to complete a story titled "The Cube" in several "relay" steps. The contest begins May 8 and will continues through at least Acts II and III. Click here for details.
YOUNG TRADITION CONCERT (now)--The Events for Tom Series with KIDS DAY and Burlington Parks and Recreation is presenting the 4th Annual Young Tradition Concert on Saturday May 17, in Burlington. The concert features children, youth and young adults 25- years-old-and-under who play, sing and/or dance in folk and traditional styles. For the first time audience favorites will receive cash prizes ($500 for 1st, $250 for 2nd, $125 for 3rd) in addition to dozens of other prizes. APRIL-MAY CALL FOR MUSICIANS

BURLINGTON--The second annual Art's Alive Spring Fine Art Exhibit continues with Franklin County artists at Union Station. The exhibit and sale continues through April 27. The exhibit features Harald Aksdal, Rebecca Anne Bennett, Emily Billings, Jonathan Billings, Gordon Boomhower, Jane Bower, Claire Dunn, Jim Foote, Mary Ann Godin, Barbara Hamm, David Juaire, Suzanne Kenyon, Anita Michelle, Pat Murphy, Autumn Parry, Stina Plant, Karen Day Vath, and Maggy Young. The Art's Alive gallery is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Union Station is located at One Main Street at the western edge of Burlington. Admission is free.
Artist, photographer, and teacher Ed Pierce of Montpelier uses 4x5 and 8x10 view cameras and silver halide prints to create contemplative images of landscape and abstract natural forms.
