The New Life Christian Church of Enosburg and First Baptist Church of Richford present the rich gospel sounds of Journey Home in the Opera House Enosburg Falls on Saturday evening in the first of two "bonus" concerts of the Christian Music on the Parks Concert Series. THE GOSPEL OF OPERA
"This concert is indoors because of the chilly evenings," Rev. Tim Stetson said. "We hope everyone will join us as we celebrate our whole summer series."
Journey Home is a family gospel group that offers a blend of gospel music in the Southern Gospel style. Based in Wilton, Maine, they have been on the road ministering in the New England States since 2001. Lead singer Jody Linn Savage of Randolph is always happy to return to perform in her home state.
The Christian Music on the Parks concerts has featured a wide variety of Christian music styles including southern gospel, Christian country, bluegrass, contemporary, and praise music with artists from throughout New England and New York state.
All concerts are on Saturday nights at 7 p.m., in Town parks around the county. Admission is free. A free will offering is taken at each concert to support the ministries of each artist or group. Food, fine art, and foliage! What could be better as Downtown St. Albans gears up for the second annual Taylor Park Fine Wine, Beer, and Food Festival on Saturday. Area artists will join Ben & Jerry's and many great area wine, beer, and food peeps under the tent from 11-4 p.m. CELEBRATE FOLIAGE
The art exhibit and sale includes works by St. Albans Artists' Guild members Louise Counos, Paule Gingras, Barbara Hamm, David Juaire, Cheryl Messier, and Karen Day-Vath.
The Festival benefits Habitat for Humanity, Samaritan House, and the St. Albans Historical Museum. Admission is $25 per adult. Tickets are available at Jeff's Maine Seafood. Call Jamie West (802.524.6135) for more info.
WESTON--Artist Corliss Blakely of St. Albans opens a new one-woman show in Weston on Wednesday. ART ON THE WALLS
"I’m really looking forward to this show," Ms. Blakely said.
Ms. Blakely spent the summer collecting and painting the bittersweet, blackberries, blueberries, wild cranberries, elderberries and roses that grow on on Butler Island.
The art show will be open daily 10 - 5 starting October 1 and continuing through October 12 in the center of the Weston Village right across from the Bryant House Restaurant. Click here for more info and to preview the paintings in the show.
COHASSET, MA--The New England Watercolor Society's 11th Biennial North American Open Show opens tomorrow evening with a reception at 6 - 8 p.m.
The Dillon Gallery showcases the work of Michael Domina, Kay Kopper, Moey Lane, Gretchen Moran and Nick Phakos in Point of View.
BURLINGTON--Events for Tom presents the Avi and Celia CD Release Party for Let it Rise at FlynnSpace tomorrow evening at 7:30 p.m. ON STAGE LIVE
A washboard, sliding steel guitar, and two big voices bond together to deliver gritty, original folk based music. Simmering with hip bending, blue-tinged melodies, this powerhouse duo writes songs with youthful honesty.
The new recording combines hopeful idealism with personal commentary on social and political agendas. The music weaves lyrical content and deep blues inflections with the stories heard in dusty bus stations. Avi and Celia are audience favorites from the 2007 and 2008 Young Tradition concerts. Their debut CD, Off the Floor, was a rousing success.

BURLINGTON--The Vermont Youth Orchestra opens the 08-09 concert season with Vive La France! at the Flynn Center for the Performing Arts on Sunday at 3 p.m.
Flautist Kelly Herrmann will perform Borne's Carmen Fantasy, and pianist Samantha Angstman will play the first movement of Ravel's Piano Concerto in G major. Conductor Troy Peters has also chosen works by French composers Chabrier, Debussy, Saint-Saens and Borodin to continue this afternoon in a Paris cafe.
The new VYO Blog now includes both Ms. Herrmann's and Ms. Angstman's thoughts about soloing in a symphony orchestra.
The VYO features musicians from across Vermont including several from Franklin County.
Admission is $15, $12, and $10 for adults/seniors and $12, $10, and $6 for students. Call the Flynn Box office of (802-86-FLYNN) or visit flynntix.org for advance tickets. Tickets are also available at the door.
New England Foundation for the Arts' research on the creative economy lead the Economic Development track at the Americans for the Arts annual convention in Philadelphia. The NEFA goal is to have its Creative Economy research model adopted nationally. That research model includes significant results from Franklin County. CULTURAL ECONOMY
The convention showed that the process is under way. Creative Economy advocates from Colorado, Texas, Wisconsin, and other states are using the data framework and methodology developed from local results to create similar analysis in those states.
The findings and recommendations in NEFA's report, The Creative Economy: A New Definition, are available on the NEFA website.
Anna Vreman of Milton captures Vermont landscapes using water-based media on paper, canvas or board. Her paintings have been shown throughout Vermont, including the Bryan Memorial Gallery, the Basin Harbor Resort, the Helen Day, and the Southern Vermont Art Center. She originally trained as an electrical engineer. The site includes selected paintings, reproduction prints, biographical info, an email link, and her current exhibit.
