ART ON THE WALLS

MANCHESTER--Southern Vermont Arts Center (SVAC) begins an exhibit of new paintings by artist Gail Salzman of Fairfield in the Yester House Gallery on Saturday. SVAC will host a public opening and reception on Saturday from 2-4 p.m.
Ms. Salzman's exhibits include vibrant abstract oil paintings that celebrate the complexity of nature. The artist is known for her translucent layers and the looping lines that reflect her love of water and the rhythms of nature. She calls the new work more "organic than geometric."
Ritorno is a detail from one of the new pieces in the show. "With colors and textures influenced by recent trip to Tuscany," she said, "['Ritorno'] reflects on the shifting relationship between [my] internal and external landscape."
Ms. Salzman has exhibited extensively throughout the East Coast for over twenty years. She has received a painting award from the NEA and grants from the Vermont Arts Council and the Vermont Arts Endowment Fund. A respected art teacher, she teaches drawing and painting at Community College of Vermont and Burlington City Arts. Her work can also be seen at the Furchgot- Sourdiffe Gallery in Shelburne.
