Stop in for live music and more at the Fairfax Music Sessions at the Foothills Bakery in Fairfax most Saturday afternoons at 1 p.m., at various restaurants around Franklin County throughout the week, at the Bayside in St Albans Town most Sunday afternoons, and the Cambridge CoffeeHouses at 7 p.m. on the first and third Wednesday of every month.

Winter wanes and Chow!Bella and The Fabulous Spiders have teamed up with a delicious meal and great entertainment to benefit Franklin County Court Diversion on Saturday. Appetizers and cocktails (cash bar) will begin at 6 p.m. with jazz during dinner, then dancing, a silent auction, and entertainment ongoing until 9 p.m. Seating is limited to 200. MARDI GRAS!
Look for traditional Mardi Gras dance songs, Motown, jazz, soulful ballads, and second line funk. The Spiders are Marcia Brewster, Pat Austin, and Debbie Patton, with accompaniment by Will Patton, bass; Dono Schabner, guitar; Joe Moore, sax; Lar Duggan, keys; and Caleb Bronz, drums.
"We have nearly $2,500 worth of donated items including plenty for golf," Court Diversion Executive Director Pat Leboeuf said. "Everyone has a great time."
The benefit includes Franklin County Court Diversion and the Teen Alcohol Safety Program.
Admission is $35 per person or $65 per couple. There are also a limited number of "Dancing and Auction Only" tickets available for $15 each or $25 per couple. Tickets are available at Chow!Bella, Franklin County Chamber of Commerce, or at Franklin County Court Diversion; a limited number of tickets will be available at the door. "Even if you buy your tickets at the door, please call Connie ahead of time to let her know how many to plan for," Ms. Leboeuf said. The buffet dinner will include some non-Mardi Gras dishes to please all palates. Call Pat LeBoeuf (802.527.1112) or email for more info.
RUTLAND--Saturday Night Coffeehouse Concert Series presents Yankee Chank in the Unitarian Universalist Church on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. The Cajun dance band performs traditional dance music with traditional instruments from southwest Louisiana. The concert will include the two-steps and waltzes played in the dance halls and honky-tonks of Louisiana. ON STAGE LIVE

ST. ALBANS--The St. Albans Historical Museum and the Osher Lifelong Learning Series present actor David Poirier in The Life of Theodore Roosevelt on Wednesday at 11 a.m.
Mr. Poirier will bring America's 26th President to life by performing excerpts from the Jerome Alden penned one-man show, Bully. The play showcases the life and times of politician, environmentalist, soldier, husband and father often called "America's favorite president."
Subscribers may attend any sessions of the series. Lectures are also open to non-members for a fee of $5 per lecture. All events are held on Wednesdays at 11 a.m. in the Bliss Auditorium on the third floor at the Museum.
MONTGOMERY CENTER--The Snowshoe presents the washboard rock & roll experience of Hey Momma on Saturday at 9 p.m. The band includes Avi Salloway, Celia Woodsmith, Jared Seabrook, and Ben Kogan.
Avi & Celia have built a grassroots following throughout the Northeast including their crowd-pleasing gigs in the Young Traditions series. Now living in Boston, they have opened for Taj Mahal, Leon Russell, and Big Brother and the Holding Co. They released their first CD, Off the Floor, in 2007 and their second critically acclaimed album, Let it Rise, in 2008.

ST. ALBANS and BURLINGTON--Mark your calendars and buy your tickets! The Green Arts Bus and the Flynn present a different take on FDR by Ed Asner is on Saturday, March 6, at 8 p.m.
Admission including Orchestra A seating at the Flynn and a round-trip bus ride is $56 per person. The deadline to purchase tickets is Thursday, February 25. The bus will leave from the Senior Center on Messenger Street at 7 pm. Tickets are non-refundable even if the weather is severe and the bus driver feels it is unsafe to drive.
The Green Arts Bus is a local 26 passenger bus provided by Buddy's Taxi with support from the Franklin County Regional Chamber of Commerce. Six additional seats may be available for people with existing or season tickets. The cost of the round trip bus ticket alone is $10.

PUBLIC ART PROPOSALS (February 25)--The City of Norfolk seeks an artist to design a commemoration to tell the history and importance of the End of the Massive Resistance. The final artwork should communicate the past, be thought-provoking, and inspire a community and a higher ideal. Up to five finalists will be selected to be interviewed and paid $1,000 to make a presentation. One artist will be selected. Click here for project descriptions and application details. JURIED SCULPTURE EXHIBITION (February 26)--The non-profit Desotorow Gallery call is open to national and international artists (professional, emerging, and student) with works of all genres and media. Entry fee. Call 912.335.8204, email or click here for a prospectus.
ARTIST IN RESIDENCE (March 1)--The Byrdcliffe Arts Colony Artist in Residence Program offers visual artists, writers, and composers one-month residencies in Woodstock. Fellowships are available for painters and playwrights. Pollock-Krasner: $1,100 plus free tuition for five artists. The Milton and Sally Avery Fellowship: $700 plus free tuition for an artist. ANARCHY (March 5)--A major show at the Studio Place Arts main gallery in Barre wants "statements of revolution, disorder and chaos" for an exhibit on the absence of government or utopian society for an exhibit that honors Barre’s historic connections to the Anarchist Movement. Anarchy means something different to every artist and every viewer; the reactions make good fodder for art. Be conceptual or concrete; all media welcome. Entry fee but free to SPA members. KIDS SPEAK MUSIC (March 30)--The Stop Drunk Driving Now Kids Saving Kids CD Campaign will bring 30 artists together for a digitally distributed CD to raise awareness about the dangers of driving under the influence. Artists must be 18 years old or younger. Boston-based Illumina Records will produce the CD.

Please note that Internet chatter calls Illumina Records "a scam." The organization does seem to be a vanity publisher but the Kids Saving Kids campaign appears to be a legitimate, no-charge opportunity to do some good. Illumina will undoubtedly use the data they gather from the musicians to market their own services.

MOTION PORTRAITURE & SELF-PORTRAITURE (March 31)--Accepting all artworks which can be screened in video (including film, video, motion graphics, animation, programming, game interfaces, flip books, etc.) Send submissions as .mov data files on DVD, with current CV or resume and artist statement. James Vogler of Charlotte is an abstract painter who works in oil and wax. He explores color and spatial relationships. His Blogspot site includes a biography and artist statement plus several representative works. The site is missing any contact info which makes it very hard to buy a painting from Mr. Vogler.
