Summer Music at Grace presents Tom Akstens and Neil Rossi in a A Journey into American Roots Music on Friday at 7:30 p.m. SUMMER ROOTS
Multi-instrumentalists, singers, and songwriters Tom Akstens and Neil Rossi explore the nooks and crannies of old-time country music, country blues, and honky-tonk.
The boys took part in Hootenanny '63 with the Jug Band and Tom Rush while they were still in high school. Mr. Rossi joined a world champion old-time string band, the Spark Gap Wonder Boys and has had fiddled around with Two Chord Jones and Diamonds in the Rough and plays mandolin with our own Big Spike Bluegrass. Mr. Akstens joined Blues Power as a guitarist and singer and now also plays mandolin, guitar. and clawhammer banjo with the acoustic trio Big Trout Radio. The pair frequently play coffeehouses and concerts at colleges, small festivals, and libraries. Their current tour brought them here from Saratoga National Heritage Park and Racquette Lake and takes them next to Glens Falls.

Grace Church is located at 215 Pleasant Street, Sheldon. The suggested donation of $10 benefits the performers. Future concerts feature PossumHaw on Friday, September 24, and Asphalt Drive on October 1. Fine Art black-and-white photographer Peter Arthur Weyrauch of East Calais is featured in two current shows. Four of his large format prints are part of The Shadow, a show at the T.W. Wood Gallery in Montpelier with a reception this evening at 5 p.m. The show runs through October 4. His Rodz series of vintage hot rod and antique car photographs continues in a solo show at The Townsend Gallery at Black Cap Coffee in Stowe. That exhibit ends Wednesday. ART ON THE WALLS
Mr. Weyrauch serves on the Artist in Residence board. He has a love for vintage cars and trees. He works primarily in black-and-white; his prints hang in private collections and galleries throughout North America and Europe. Click here for more info.
BURLINGTON--Carol Ann Jones of Georgia and John Gibbons of St Albans join a singer-songwriter extravaganza at the Heineburg Club tomorrow evening at 7 p.m. Mike Abler, Carol Abair, Craig Anderson, Monika Baege, Tom Barber, Renee Berteau, Gregg Jordan, Ken Lawless, Robin Reid, and John Smyth will all perform their original music. The Heineburg Club is at 14 Heineburg Rd.
Admission is a $5 donation to the Heineburg Community Center. The club has a 150 person fire code so tickets must be reserved by calling 802.363.3861.
COLCHESTER--The Lake Champlain Chamber Music Festival continues through Sunday at the Elley-Long Music Center at Saint Michael's College.
An Evening in Russia takes the stage with Piano Trio in E minor, op. 67, by Shostakovich and The Battleship Potemkinon by Eisenstein on Friday at 7:30 p.m.
Saturday master classes include the Virtuoso Showcase and Sounding Board.
The Closing Concert will feature the Brahms Liebeslieder Waltzes for Piano Four Hands, Horn Trio by Gyorgy Ligeti, and Beethoven's Archduke Piano Trio on Sunday at 3:00 p.m. There will be a pre-concert talk at 2:15 p.m. and a meet the artist post-concert discussion follows the event.

WINOOSKI--The Bluebird Tavern presents Ragged Glory with special guest Carol Ann Jones on Saturday at 9:30 p.m.
The father/son team of Ken & Jesse French cover Neil Young tunes. "I will join them with harmonies as Nicolette Larson did in the 70s," Ms Jones said. There is no cover charge.
ESSEX JUNCTION--Lyle Lovett and his Large Band open the Champlain Valley Fair on Saturday at 8 p.m.
The Fair also includes free performance by the US Marine Corps Band, the First Night Stars, and the Vermont Talent Showcase on the Burlington Free Press Stage, plus the Dixieland Band Strollers on the grounds.
The Vermont Talent Showcase lineup was not available at press time.
The WOKO Country Club Music Festival takes over the Fair on Sunday with Rodney Atkins and special guests Aaron Tippin, Love and Theft, and Gwen Sebastian.
The 2010 Read & Win summer reading program encouraged elementary and middle school children to read three or more books this summer. The program drew to a close August 13. Students who signed up at city, town and village libraries will receive a special free day at the Fair on Monday.

Stone sculptor William Nutt of White River Junction creates abstract and representational carvings in marble, limestone and dolomite. He has marine themed and animal pieces which range from intricate small reliefs to large in-the-round carvings.
