The Vermont Youth Orchestra Spring Concert takes place at the Dibden Center at Johnson State College tomorrow evening at 8:00 p.m. VYO principal cellist Joshua Morris of St. Albans will present the first movement of the Cello Concerto in B minor, Op. 104, B. 191; The new orchestra Music Director, Maestro Jeff Domoto, conducts. SPRING INTO MUSIC
The program opens with the Ruy Blas Overture by Felix Mendelssohn. Antonin Dvorak's Cello Concerto features Mr. Morris. The evening also includes El Salon Mexico by Aaron Copland and the Enigma Variations by Edward Elgar. The program previews the works that the VYO will take on the road for their upcoming summer tour of Germany and the Czech Republic.
Admission to the Dibden Center is $10 for adults and seniors or $5 for non-JSC students and for youth 12 and under. JSC students are admitted free. Tickets to the Dibden are available from the box office and at the door.
The concert is reprised at the Flynn on Sunday at 3 p.m. Admission to the Flynn is $15, $12, $10 for adults and seniors or $12, $10, $6 for students. Tickets for the Flynn only are available at flynntix.org and at the door.
The VYOA will hold orchestral auditions beginning on Monday May 2. The auditions are open to musicians currently in grades 3-11, with at least one year of experience on an orchestral instrument. Woodwind and brass players younger than seventh grade should have at least two years of experience on their instrument.

ENOSBURG--The Opera House at Enosburg Falls presents Heather McKeown's Highbrow to Hoedown on Saturday. Take off is at 7 p.m. sharp. ON STAGE LIVE
"This is the 22nd year," Ms. McKeown said. "They started 22 years ago as a 4-times a summer show on the deck over my septic tank behind the Berkshire Town Library. Some of the acts, like Betty Curboy, have been in nearly every show."
Fasten your seatbelts. The cast of inflight Jetblue crew members and Franklin County's favorite performers are ready to fly another audience off to another night of rock 'n roll, blues, comedy, opera, classical, folk, and musical comedy destinations.
The cast includes the brothers Latimore Hoke and David Hoke on fiddle and guitar, Kathleen and Soukaina Ansari, Jackson Boutin, Chasing 440, the Crooked Creek Gospel band, Betty Curboy and Philip Graziano, singer/songwriter Carol Ann Jones, the Missisquoi River Band, Jetblue's own Carlton Purdie, Captain Lincoln Reeves, Sean Roberts back again this year from Atlanta, Georgia, the rock group Up Country, Miss Vermont, vocalist Caroline Bright, Patience and Meg Willey, Sarah Jo Willey and Jared Willey, the return of Placebo Domingo, plus the cast of Seussical with Diane Whitehead Gates and the Pit Band, and Jetblue talent from Alabama, Jamaica, Florida, New Jersey, New York City, South Carolina, and beyond with long time emcee, JetBlue's Darryl Goodwin.
There will be cake, a 50/50 raffle, Tim Stetson art, a massage auction, confirmed space JetBlue tickets, the airplane Rice Krispy cake award and much more.
The proceeds will be divided between the MVU Music Department, the Benjamin J. Quattlebaum Fund, Rural Partnerships, "and more if a lot of money is raised,"
Admission is about $10 or "more if you have it!" The box office opens at 6 p.m.
COLCHESTER--The McCarthy Arts Center at St. Michael's College presents St. Albans native Karen McFeeters in Concert in the Recital Hall on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. Sarah Allerton, Craig Anderson, Patrick Fitzsimmons, Georgia singer-songwriter John Gibbons, Gregg Jordan and Melissa Morrison will join Ms. McFeeters in a benefit for Kids on the Block Vermont.
Ms. McFeeters has sung lead and harmony vocals on recordings by fellow songwriters. She has performed with singer/songwriters Patti Casey, Carrie Newcomer and Diane Ziegler and is a member of a vocal/acoustic trio with Craig Anderson and John Gibbons. Her current CD, Here and Now, is her third album.

ST. ALBANS--The Vermont All State Parade kicks off the All State Music Festival at BFA on Wednesday at 6 p.m. Sixteen BFA-St. Albans students are participants.
After 19 years of planning (and delays), a new $51 million South Florida performing arts theater opened with a children's festival last Saturday. The South Miami-Dade Cultural Arts Center in Cutler Bay expects to have programming that can draw the diverse South Florida community into the center. ART CENTER NEWS
Here's the reason this story is germane to Franklin County. Miami-Dade County decided to create a network of cultural "feeder" centers, for the new Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts in Downtown Miami, much the same way the Enosburg Opera House, MVU stage, and new BFA Arts Center could both feed to and take outreach from the Flynn and other Chittenden County spaces.
The South Miami-Dade center is the first of its kinds in that area. It features a 966-seat theater with an orchestra pit; dressing rooms, work areas, and administrative offices; box office, lobby, restrooms, and concessions; and a multi-purpose rehearsal space. A separate activities building on the 6-acre campus houses an informal performance space and smaller multipurpose areas for lectures, classes, and community gatherings. The county will celebrate the center's opening with on April 23.
South Miami-Dade residents call the arts center the major point of pride for their home.
Funding came from the state and county budgets and a hotel tax associated with the construction of the Arsht Center in downtown Miami.
The two buildings will be joined by an outdoor promenade leading to a sloping lawn for outdoor concerts and festivals along the Black Creek Canal, which will accommodate 750 to 1,500 people.
Art centers help to lure businesses to the area. Cutler Bay's vice mayor expects merchants, restaurateurs and other businesses to want to be near such a facility. As long as the art center also lures fine art exibits and programming.
National Poetry Month draws to a close this week with two links. poets.org celebrates all poetry every day. This year saw a cross-country "relay race" of 54 poets who each contributed lines to one poem about America. Known as "Renga," this ancient Japanese traditional collaboration resulted in Crossing State Lines: An American Renga, co-curated by California Poet Laureate Carol Muske-Dukes. That leads to America: Now and Here, a cross-disciplinary exhibition journey across the country with art, poetry, film, theater and music through site specific launch installations and by custom designed mobile truck galleries.
