CANCELLED, DARN IT

Irene could now be a Category 1 hurricane when it enters the Connecticut River Vally on Sunday. This is a big storm, some 500 miles in diameter. The Champlain Valley can expect the strongest winds Sunday evening, right in time for Summer Sounds. If we are extremely lucky, winds will reach sustained speeds of only 30-45 mph, with gusts reaching the 45-65 mph range across the state.
The Summer Sounds concert featuring Dark Horse in Highgate Municipal Park on Sunday has been cancelled."
Dark Horse will ride again, but not until next summer.
Join us next week as Carol Ann Jones and the Superchargers play into the fireworks at Bay Day.
The Summer Sounds concerts are sponsored by the Town of Highgate and the All Arts Council, and underwritten by Chevalier Drilling, Drummac Septic Service, O. C. McCuin and Sons, and Ray's Extrusion Dies and Tubing.
The community based All Arts Council brings the performing arts to northwestern Vermont. The concerts are always on Sunday evenings, always at 7 p.m., always in Highgate Municipal Park, and always free.
Click here for posters and more info.

COFFEEHOUSE

The Teen Coffeehouse continues at Bent Northrop Memorial Library in Fairfield on Friday at 7 p.m. The gathering place invites teens to share music, poetry (or other readings), and artwork.
The informal coffeehouse is all-acoustic. Bring a lawn chair or blanket since it is held on the back patio as long as the snow holds off. There are snacks and beverages and may try out some home-made root beer.
Franklin County teen performers, writers, or artists should email the Bent Northrup or Wendy Maquera to join the lineup.
