FAIRFAX--Artist Gail Salzman has received a Vermont Arts Endowment Fund grant from the Vermont Community Foundation to support her current series of large oil paintings. Her new work be featured in upcoming solo exhibit SOUNDINGS and catalogue at the Burlington City Arts Center, opening in May 2013. She has exhibited throughout the East Coast for more than 25 years. Bella Voce Women's Chorus also received a grant to support their Songs of Hope and Freedom project.
The Vermont Arts Endowment Fund and the Concert Artists Fund announced that together they have awarded a total of $83,550 to 32 artists and arts organizations earlier this month. The Arts Endowment Fund awarded over $36,000 to commission, create, or present new work or to assist Vermont artists take their work in exciting new directions. The Concert Artists Fund awarded over $46,000 to support performances of classical music in Chittenden County.
ENOSBURG FALLS--The Artist In Residence Gallery features different artists each month. This month, the spotlight is on and painters Sharon Fiske and Nancy Jacobus, and the "Silvertiques" of Larry Langlois and Barb Langevin.
Sharon Fiske paints primarily in oils but also works in acrylic and watercolor to create Primitive Portraits, Theorems, and Reverse Glass Painting. She has a "bright eye" and a palette loaded with vivid colors.
Nancy Jacobus paints on silk with wax as a resist and water-based silk paints. "I love the vivid colors and uncontrolled flow of the paint on the silk," she said. Her works are marked by simple designs and shape, strong colors, dancing lines, and movement. And purple. Her outdoor activities pointed her to photography to capture images for her silk paintings. In addition to dragonflies and butterflies, and she has a series of Heron and Turtle images and paintings of Dancing Women.
Larry Langlois and Barb Langevin have bought and sold antiques for years. Mr. Langlois crafts items from unique recycled vintage pieces that are unique which grew from vintage silverware for candle holders into Upscale Silvertiques, a line of gifts and jewelry. They are longtime residents of Highgate but new to the Gallery.
The A.I.R. gallery hosts a free meet-the-artists reception with refreshments on Sunday from 1 - 4 p.m. The exhibit continues through the end of November.
The Artist in Residence art cooperative features paintings, fiber arts, stained glass, sculpture, lamps, pottery, folk art boxes, scarves, hats and more by 45 Franklin County and surrounding area artists. It is owned and operated by the artists and sponsors. The gallery, located at 321 Main Street, is open Wednesday-Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. plus the first Sunday of each month, noon to 5 p.m.
ESSEX JUNCTION--On Tap at the Lincoln Inn offers Blues Night with the Nobby Reed Project tonight at 7 p.m. ON STAGE LIVE

MORRISVILLE--Moog's Place has "live music every night we're open, starting between eight and nine pm" with open mic night scheduled most Tuesdays at 8:30 p.m.

ST. ALBANS--Chow Bella has Abby Road with Abby Grimmer, lead vocalist; Tim Gibbons, guitar, vocals, percussion, mandolin and song writer; and Jack Grimmer, guitar, bass and vocals, on Saturday at 7 p.m.
Then the Chow Open Mic Night is coming up this Wednesday, November 7.
"We had a super night of music and poetry!" Jack Grimmer said of the October 17 performances by a dozen artists.

ALBANS--The St. Albans Free Library Homeschoolers' Book Group meets today and the first Thursday of each month at 1 p.m. Librarians lead the discussion and provide the books and a light snack for Youth ages 10 - 14. SWANTON--The Swanton Free Public Library Book Discussion Group is reading Kim Edwards' novel, The Memory Keeper’s Daughter, a story of twins separated at birth, The group will discuss the book on Wednesday, November 14 at 6 p.m. at the library.
Bucket O' Fun is interdisciplinary theater artist Trish Denton and circus artist Eric Denice of Burlington. She works with children as a teaching artist specializing in choreography, mask, voice and physical acting. He is a gymnastics instructor and youth circus educator and has been a teaching artist with Circus Minimus.
