"I let the paint do the work," watercolor painter Linda Clark said of the blended colors and the play of light and dark in her paintings. She's been painting for seven years as a part time hobby. FEATURED ARTIST
"I wanted to watercolor when I retire," she said.
"Do it now," she was told.
Good advice. Ms. Clark has taken watercolor classes in St. Albans with Kathy Berry Bergeron and Holbein workshops from other artists.
The Northwestern Medical Center Gallery hosts Ms. Clark in a solo show this month. That show continues through the end of November. Her work is also on exhibit at ECHO Museum in Burlington and has been shown in area events and shows in Franklin County.
A native Vermonter, Ms. Clark lives on Lake Champlain with her husband Paul. The lake and the scenic beauty of Vermont throughout the seasons inspire her.

ST. ALBANS--The Woodmen of the World present the Curse of the Golden Asp, a murder mystery dinner theater fundraiser in the Bliss Room of the St. Albans Historical Museum this evening. Doors open at 5:30 p.m.; dinner will be served at 7 p.m. sharp. Co-op Theater East returns from New York City to Vermont with an intrepid explorer and her trusty sidekick just back from the ancient crypts of Egypt with priceless artifacts and The Golden Asp. An inscription on the statue warns that it is cursed, but that's just superstition -- until the statue disappears, and diners fall victim to what appear to be snake-bites. CURSES MY ASP
Founded in 2008, COTE produces socially minded performances in New York City as well as touring productions such as this one. Interactive Murder Mystery dinner theater is popular around the country but rarely staged in Vermont. One major group has franchises in 36 major cities and claims over 35,000 performances nationwide in the last 25 years.

The St. Albans City Arts Council meets in City Hall this evening at 6:30 p.m. ARTSY MEETING
Their current project is a year-round community chorus that will carol and perform at the Festival of Trees this year. They also plan visual arts, performing arts, and written word projects.
The City Arts Council advisory council is modeled on the NMC Board of Incorporators. The council also has a six-member board of directors.

There was frost on the pumpkins and (most of us) have stopped mowing the lawns. Yep, it's beginning to look a lot like Christmas. PLANNING AHEAD
The Christmas shopping season (there are only 47 days until Christmas) is upon us. I need your help to gather a list of arts sales and crafts shows and individual studios with work available in Franklin County. I'll publish a roundup in the column before Thanksgiving.

It is also time to apply for 2014 camp at Village Harmony. The Marshfield, Vermont-based organization has study/performance programs, professional recordings, and regular tours throughout North America, the UK and western Europe.
The 2014 Sessions include Performance Camps for Teens and Young Adults, International Summer Camps in Corsica, the Caucasus, and Italy, plus an Adult Residential Week in the Oregon Cascades.
Village Harmony also offers weekend workshops. Tuition includes rooms and all meals for workshops that begin with supper on Friday night and close with a review session following lunch on Sunday. The Annual Winter Workshop at Hulbert Outdoor Center in Fairlee takes place in February.
The organization begins sending out acceptance emails for in early January. New applicants after the first of the year will be accepted thereafter on a rolling basis only until each camp session is filled. Some sessions fill very quickly.
