LIVE IN THE SWANTON ARTS COUNCIL
The Swanton Fire Department needs a face painter for their open house on October 17 10 a.m.-2 p.m. All materials will be supplied. Email for info.
SWANTON--SAC will hold a Creative Meeting in the Swanton Free Public Library on Monday at 5:30 p.m. for adult coloring and a discussion on the potential for future Life Drawing classes.
SWANTON--The Swanton Arts Council continues its growth. They are now a Vermont non-profit organization. The next step is to receive federal 501(c)(3) designation.
An Open Art Studio will meet in the Swanton Free Public Library on the first Tuesday of each month from 4-8 p.m. Participants must bring their own materials and clean up their own tools and workspace. This is a chance to share the making of your art in a positive, friendly environment.
SAC will have a display of 200+ milk-bottle ghosts for Halloween in the Park.
MVU is forming a chapter of the National Arts Honor Society. Interested students are invited to join the SAC.

OCTOBERFEST!
Live oom-pah, polka and waltz from Inseldudler will highlight the day of German food, 14th Star brews, wines from Due North, and cider from Citizen Cider.
The "Island Tooters" have become the go-to German band in Vermont with weddings, German and Bavarian-themed parties, beer releases, keg tappings, special occasions, Cinco de Mayo, and Oktoberfests.
Admission is $50 per person; all proceeds will benefit the St. Albans Historical Museum. Tickets to the 21+ event include a flight of beer, collectible pine glass, a Museum tour and hearty snacks from Twiggs Catering. Transportation to and from the Museum will be provided. ART ON THE WALLS
Ms. Lewis was born and raised in Argentina where the climate is gentle, a home that invited her to spend time outside. Nature, its shapes, colors and mysterious cycles, was my first teacher, she said. Over time she has shifted from copying the reality she sees to expressing the abstract images of her mind. She and her family moved here 20 years ago.
This is Ms. Lewis' first art show. She chose it to celebrate her 60th birthday this month. She is trained in psychology with informal training in art. "I have gone into abstract because I love it" and because it fits her interest and "having fun."
"I chose to do landscapes with only three colors plus black and white" for this show, she said. Look for the leaf that fell on her deck.
The show continues through the end of October.

ST. ALBANS--October is breast cancer awareness month. Twiggs hosts a very special
event, the second annual Breast Night
Ever on Saturday at 6:30 p.m. The fundraiser has an eclectic mix of
performers to benefit detection and treatment for this disease. Admission is
free but a donation of $5 or more will go straight to the cause.Next up, Twiggs presents Bethany Conner in a solo gig in the restaurant on Friday at 7 p.m. The Essex Junction singer-songwriter studied magic at Gryffindor. She is the 2015 Vermont Has Talent Grand Champion.

Saturday
FRANKLIN--The Franklin Community hosts a Harvest Dance with caller Luke Donforth and the Cold Hollow String Band in the historic Franklin Town Hall on Saturday at 7 p.m.
Mr. Donforth will introduce all the dances so no experience is necessary. The internationally renowned Cold Hollow String Band plays red hot, live, old time music with no lollygagging so put your hoe down and bring your friends.
Adult admission is only $5 and children are free. There will be refreshments.

ENOSBURG--The Nerd comes to the Opera House at Enosburg Falls next week, starting Thursday October 15. The comedy introduces an aspiring architect who gets in touch with the fellow ex-GI who saved his life in Vietnam.

FRANKLIN COUNTY BOOKSHELF
FRANKLIN-The Bookmobile will hold a CLiF "Night" at Franklin Elementary School on Saturday at 10 a.m. complete with storyteller David Martin and a book giveaway.
CLiF stands for Children's Literacy Foundation. The event puts books into the hands of children showcases how much fun families can have with books. With two free books for each child at the event and over 100 books for the bookmobile library collection, the giveaway generates interest in new stories and regenerates it in the old familiar ones.
The Bookmobile is a non-profit mobile library serving northern Vermont with books to borrow as well as literacy activities for all ages.
ENOSBURG--Enosburgh Public Library's director, Maria Harris, has accepted a position at Holocaust Museum Houston. Tomorrow is last day; the library will host an open house on Saturday at noon-4 p.m. to say goodbye and wish her well.
FAIRFAX--The Fairfax Community Library Nonfiction Book Group meets this evening at 6:30 p.m. to discuss James McBride's memoir, The Color of Water: A Black Man's Tribute to His White Mother. Copies are available now at the library.
On Saturday, the library workshop is Make Your Own Hand Salve at 10 a.m. Taught by herbalist Nicole Saur, the cost is $15 for instruction and materials; preregistration is necessary.
FAIRFIELD--To Bid or Not to Bid, That Is the Question at the Bent Northrop Memorial Library Wine & Cheese Party on Saturday at 6 p.m.
Auction items showcase local talent and arts, treasures, and market produce and there will be "a fabulous array of wines and cheeses to sample as you bid." Admission is by $15 suggested donation.

MONTGOMERY--The Montgomery Friends of the Library are holding a creative writing contest for all Montgomery Elementary School and Home-Schooled Students ages 10-15 to write A Scary Story. $100 and $50 Amazon Gift Cards will be awarded as first and second prize in each age group.

ST ALBANS--Tonight at 6 p.m. is Classic Movie Night at the St. Albans Free Library with The 39 Steps as the feature. Films are shown on the 4' by 6' screen in the upstairs conference room cinema. A newsreel, preview and cartoon are shown prior to the movies. Admission is free, along with popcorn and beverage.
The Tuesday Night Book Group meets on Tuesday at 7 p.m. to discuss The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt. The group reads a wide range of genres. A limited number of books available at the circulation desk. New members are always welcome.
SWANTON--The Swanton Free Public Library offers Kiki's Delivery Service in a free Family Movie Matinee on Saturday at 2 p.m.
The Japanese animated film directed by Hayao Miyazaki is the story of a young witch and her talking black cat. She lands a job delivering goods by broomstick which doesn't always go according to plan.
