RICHFORD--Saturday is the 142nd running of the greatest two minutes in arts, sorry, in sports, the Kentucky Derby. DERBY
The Derby Day Silent Auction and Fundraiser for the Arvin A. Brown Public Library takes place at the Richford Country Club which is a lot closer than Churchill Downs on Saturday from 5-8 p.m.
Area artists and businesses have gone over the top for this year's event. Berkshire author and artist Christa Chevalier presented her original painting Milking Time -- a farmer hand milking his cow. As a young girl in Germany, she learned to tie the cow's tail to its hind leg to avoid getting whapped in the face while she was milking. Other pieces include work by Harald Aksdal, Pat Burton, Sharon Fiske, Toby Fulwiler, Gene Garron, Jenny Goyne, Deb Kiel, Huguette Lambert, Elizabeth Martin, Wayne Tarr, Carolyn Utigard-Thomas, and Jo Anne Wazny. There are also gift certificates and a variety of neat stuff. There will be light fare and munchies plus a cash bar with Mint Juleps.
Admission is $15 per person or $25 per couple. Tickets are available at the library and at the door. The fun fundraiser supports the A. A. Brown Public Library and its programs and collections.
ST. ALBANS--Mother's Day is this Sunday and Vermont artist Corliss Blakely has a Mother's Day Special: a free print for your wall with every scarf. Her soft silk wearable art Nature Scarves are hand painted and signed by Corliss. ART ON THE WALLS

ST ALBANS--The Northwestern Medical Center Gallery hosts photographer David Juaire in a solo show this month. Mr. Juaire is exhibiting May scenes including a couple of Canada geese with their seven gosling, a school bus on a country road with Mount Mansfield in the background, and a Vermont Life two page feature of the Missisquoi River with fresh blooming flowers on the bank.
The show continues through the end of May.
ST ALBANS--SACA, the Saint Albans Community Arts will host a meeting to plan painting in the park and the Saint Albans Chair Affair at Rocket Punch Games on Tuesday at 6 p.m. IN THE ARTS COUNCILS

SWANTON--The Swanton Arts Council has three events this week.
Watch the TP roll flowers bloom tomorrow in "Pop Up Art in the Park."
Pinwheel Prep continues with pinwheel assembly at the Swanton Village Complex on Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. Led by Anita Michele Parah, this work group is for adults of all skill levels and open to all who want to make art happen in Swanton. The pinwheel public art installation will take place May 28 in the Village Park.
SAC will hold its weekly Artist Gathering in the Library on Wednesday, May 11, from 6-8 p.m.

ESSEX JUNCTION--On Tap offers Blues Night with the Nobby Reed Project tonight at 7 p.m. Vermont's own blues trio includes Eric Belrose, percussion, Ray Bushey, bass, and Mr. Reed on lead guitar and vocals.

ST. ALBANS--The Franklin County Regional Chamber of Commerce Annual Awards Dinner will with humanitarian, physician, and author Dr. Dilip Joseph as "guest storyteller" at the American Legion Hall on Friday. Doors open at 5 p.m. TELL ME A STORY
For the past year, The Chamber has been promoting conversation and storytelling -- stories of our roots, struggles, successes, and dreams -- as a way of growing community. Dr. Joseph has worked in Afghanistan, bringing training, aid and education to families who have no access to medical treatment or facilities. In 2012, he was kidnaped by insurgents, held hostage, and ultimately rescued. His first book, Kidnaped by the Taliban - A Story of Terror, Hope, and Rescue by SEAL Team Six, is the story of his ordeal. He will tell that story, what it taught him, and how it has formed his future work as a physician and humanitarian.
Admission is $45 per person and includes hors-d'oeuvres, a cash bar, and a buffet dinner catered by Twiggs. Tickets are on sale now at the Chamber Office or click here for online reservations.
The CreativeGround Winter/Spring Webinar schedule concludes with an online workshop on Using CreativeGround as your Community's Cultural Directory, on Tuesday at 1-1:45 p.m. CREATIVE
Some years ago, the AAC struggled to create an arts directory to demonstrate both individuals and the entire scope of our creative community. It was expensive and time-consuming. CreativeGround picked up that ball and ran with it. Their directory not only can list the artists and other entities at work in each Franklin County community, but also can provide users with ways search and find potential collaborators. This webinar will demonstrate how to do that at no cost and with far less effort. It will show how to link customized search results for our communities or galleries and then how to market those links. It is particularly useful for local arts councils and galleries.
The 45-minute CreativeGround sessions have explored a new topic each month to show users how to make the most of New England's creative economy directory and the many features that help promote a creative enterprise and connect with the creative community.
