FAIRFAX--Fairfax Community Theater Company celebrates its 25th anniversary with a Costumed Gala at BFA-Fairfax on Saturday at 7 p.m. IT'S GALA TIME!
As Selsdon Mowbray from Noise's Off! would say: "Is it a party?"
The joyful sounds will come from on-stage and off as FCTC returns to the space in which they started, the BFA-Fairfax "Old Gym," for a costume party/dance and anniversary party fundraiser. There will be a DJ for dancing and a bit of musical theater karaoke and a "photo booth of sorts" with resident photographer Candice Bryan-Broe.
Refreshments, both savory and sweet, will be provided.
Admission is $10/person, $15/couple, $20/trios, and $25 for families of 4 or more.
JERICHO--The Northern Vermont Artists' Association currently exhibit at the old Red Mill includes "wonderful artwork by a diverse group of fine artists!" ART ON THE WALLS
The show concludes on Tuesday, September 27.

EAST FAIRFIELD--Summer Evenings with Vermont Treasures ushers in the fall with Vermont folk diva Patti Casey and Tom Mackenzie performing as Shady Rill at the Meeting House on the Green on Saturday at 7 p.m.
Shady Rill will go on a musical exploration from French-Canadian dance tunes to Tin Pan Alley, from old time country to a sampling of their original tunes. With careers that collectively span decades and richly diverse musical influences that stretch from the British Isles to deep Appalachia, Ms. Casey and Mr. Mackenzie breathe new depth and present a refreshing take on traditional acoustic music.
Beer, wine, food, great desserts are available at intermission. Got your Meeting House t-shirt yet? (Still a few left.) And peruse the Museum of Humble Art.

EAST BURKE--Mike's Tiki Bar presents the Nobby Reed Project on Saturday at 5 p.m.
Vermont's best known blues trio includes Eric Belrose, percussion, Ray Bushey, bass, and Mr. Reed on lead guitar and vocals.

WEST SPRINGFIELD, MA--Saturday is Vermont Day at the Big E, the Eastern States Exposition, which continues through October 2. New England's Largest Agricultural Fair is celebrating one "hundred years of greatness with a spectacular premier exhibit full of favorite memories from the past century." The 3,500-sq.-ft. exhibit, located in the Young Building, includes photographs of the entertainers and dignitaries who performed or visited over the years, a historic timeline, agricultural heritage, posters, a replica of Storrowton Village Museum, and much more. The Big E attracts more than one million attendees.
The Vermont Building on the Avenue of States features Vermont products, crafts, and Vermont musicians performing for guests on the weekends. Vermont Day is Pipers Day featuring Ian MacHarg and Hazen Metro with the Heather Morris Celtic Dancers plus the bagpipe rock of Prydein on Saturday, 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.
Sunday brings out Cajun dance band Yankee Chank, 12 noon - 3 p.m.
Monday
ST. ALBANS--The Cardiac Capers Kick Off Party will dance on the tables in the NMC Cafe on Monday at 7 p.m. Hear all about the show and enjoy some scrumptious refreshments.

COLCHESTER--Join the VYOA for the Autumn Promenade, an elegant and very "moving" evening around the Elley-Long Music Center, next Thursday, September 29, at 5:30 p.m.
Enjoy four mini-concerts by VYOA students and alumni spaced through the Elley-Long. It is the VYOA in a new way. Complimentary wine, light fare, and dessert will be provided.

DANCE GRANTS (September 26)--Through the New England Dance Fund, NEFA will award small, catalytic grants of $500 to $1,000 directly to choreographers who identify and articulate a critical opportunity that will significantly advance their career in dance. SOUNDS OF THE CITY (September 26)--The Association of Illustrators and London Transport Museum offers The Prize for Illustration 2017. This year's theme is an illustrated interpretation of urban sound. No Entry Fee. Click here for more info and to enter.
OUT OF ORDER (October 10)--South Shore Art Center in Cohasset invites entries of original work that offer distinctive, imaginative imagery within the theme. The juried show is open to all media and has cash awards. Entry fee. Entry is by website upload only. FRANKLIN--Drive4UrCommunity has been cancelled. The Opera House at Enosburg Falls is again partnering with Dick Wright Ford for the Drive4UrCommunity "fun"draiser. For every car that is test driven by a household, the Opera House receives $100. It's a low pressure opportunity to test drive a Ford and help out the historic art center of Franklin County. Celebrate the freedom to read: Banned Books Week is September 25-October 1. FRANKLIN COUNTY BOOKSHELF
More than 11,300 books have been challenged since 1982 according to the American Library Association. Even now, books are banned for reasons such as "poorly written" and "concerns that a group of teenagers will want to try it" (Shades of Grey). Other books almost lost last year include, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time by Mark Haddon, The Holy Bible, and Nasreen's Secret School: A True Story from Afghanistan by Jeanette Winter.

FAIRFIELD--The Bent Northrop Memorial Library offers Humanities for Everyone with Mark Timney's lecture and Q&A session, Off Target: What Hollywood, Journalists and Shooters Get Wrong About Guns, this evening at 6 p.m.
Mr. Timney's apolitical session will examine the mythology that surrounds firearms. The term "mythology" is especially appropriate; the average person, even in Vermont, knows so much about guns that just isn't so. The session will show how our perceptions of firearms have been distorted by media and folklore.
SWANTON--The Swanton Free Public Library will bring out the rockets to celebrate its 100th anniversary this weekend.
Fire destroyed the Old Central House where the library now stands, the Methodist Church, and the George Barney residence in 1895. The Messenger reported it as the greatest conflagration Vermont has ever seen. The Kings' Daughters dedicated the new FREE public library on February 9, 1916. The first community Christmas tree was erected on the bandstand in the park directly across from the library front door that year.
The festivities will begin tomorrow with Hands-on History for Kids taught by library trustee and author Rebecca Rupp. She will look at life for kids 100 years back. The hands-on history lesson will include making Wright brothers airplanes out of meat trays and toothpicks.
