Celebrate National Arts In Education Week, September 10-16, 2017.
SWANTON--The Swanton Art Spectacular takes over the village on Saturday from 10 a.m. - 6-ish with music, the Dam Ducky Derby, watermelon, ice cream, and art. SPECTACULAR!
The Village Park Bandstand presents Caleb Barrett, guitar; Trevor and Rosie, vocals and guitar; Teagan Long, guitar; Scott Rheaume, cigarbox guitar; and Scott Martel, folk electric guitar.
There will be hands on rock painting with Dianne Matton and watercolor painting with Dawn Schmidt. Art and crafts for exhibit and sale include Bees on Broadway with raw Vermont honey; Heather Buczowski, wire jewelry and art; Sara Hayes, photography; the Chicken Fried Quilter, embroidery and more; Karen Drennen, wooden art; Alan Dubie's Lightning Wood, wooden boards with electrified art; Janice Eaton, Lake Champlain rock jewelry; Flatware Creations, upcycled flatware jewelry; Christina Forcier, custom aprons; Green Mountain Hemp Company; Abrah Griggs, illustrated notecards and fine art; JOM Designs, wire jewelry and wire bonsai trees; Barb Langevin and Larry Langlais, silverware jewelry, licence plate art, and much more; the Grandma's Cupboard of Susan Magill, jams and jellies; Maple Goodies by Father & Daughter; Anita Michele Parah, paintings; Christian Poupart, wooden tea lights; Prudy's Country Crafts and knitted items; Sharon Radtke's Pond House Birds, bird and wildlife photography; Jerrilyn Reynolds, paintings and wooden decor; Rita's Relics with sun catchers, and more; Dawn Schmidt, watercolors; and Tye Dyed clothing by Calamity & Crowe.
There will be face painting, a watermelon eating contest, lawn games, the Dam Ducky Derby at Marble Mill, meet the authors, Creative Heart Counseling, a library book sale, and the MakerSpace kickoff and Open house at the Library.
ST. ALBANS--The Artist In Residence Gallery features different artists each month. This month, the spotlight is on carver Mark Doremus, en plein air painter Pam Fiaschetti, nature artist and photographer Natalie LaRocque, and pottery sculptor Martha McGinn. ART ON THE WALLS
The A.I.R. gallery hosts a free meet-the-artists reception with refreshments and a raffle today 4 - 7 p.m. The exhibit continues through the end of September.
Ms. LaRocque, a founding member of the All Arts Council, has immersed herself in the beauty of nature, expressed in her large paintings. Ms. McGinn's background in chemistry and medical research informs her approach to the deep colorful glazes of her functional pottery. Mr. Doremus uses computer software and a CNC router to "mold" three-dimensional images from photographs in wood. Ms. Fiaschetti captures Vermont's natural beauty mainly in oils and acrylics.
The Artist in Residence art cooperative features paintings, fiber arts, stained glass, sculpture, lamps, pottery, folk art boxes, scarves, hats and more by 40 Franklin County and surrounding area artists. It is owned and operated by the artists and sponsors. The gallery, newly reopened at 10 South Main Street, is open Tuesday-Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. click here for more info.
ST. ALBANS--Fall art starts today with a course from Victoria Vining at The Grind from 11 a.m. - 12 p.m. with a "second shift" starting today at 4 p.m.
The new curriculum will be an 8 week course every Thursday in September and October with a show on the last day.

ST. ALBANS--Twiggs hosts Paint Nite: Rolling Hills on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
Artist Diane Kingston introduces "art to many that have never painted, and witnessing the thrill and confidence that comes from the creative process." ST. ALBANS--The Sun's last gasp is the subject of the 14th Star Paint & Pint at the Brewery on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. Artist Jon Young takes you step-by-step through the process to create an original piece of art. Paint and Pint sessions take place about every three weeks and are limited to 24 seats. The cost is $35 per person which includes instruction, all necessary painting material, a pint/glass of a beverage of your choice, and a masterpiece to take home.

ST. ALBANS--Twiggs presents a very special evening with singer/songwriter Myra Flynn on Thursday at 7 p.m.
Ms. Flynn lives a bi-costal life, holding onto her roots in Vermont while working and living part-time in Los Angeles. She three albums to date and has toured the United States as well as Wales, London, Ireland, and Australia. She is working on her fourth album with Grammy winning producer, Jared Lee Gosselin.
Next up, Twiggs continues the barefoot and pregnant tour with Chris & Erica on Friday and Graziano Schofield & Slim on Saturday. Shows begin at 7 p.m.

MORRISVILLE--Ole! El Toro welcomes Carol Ann Jones to heat the place up with a solo show with tamales on Friday at 6:30 p.m.
EAST FAIRFIELD--The Meeting House on the Green presents the Vermont Fiddle Orchestra in Summer Evenings with Vermont Treasures on Friday at 7 p.m.
The Vermont Fiddle Orchestra is a community orchestra with performers spanning several generations, from beginning level players to professional soloists. They entertain, teach, and preserve the traditional fiddling of Vermont and beyond. The orchestra was founded in 2003 by Sarah Hotchkiss.
Admission for all concerts is by suggested donation of $10 per person at the door. All shows support the Meeting House Preservation Project. Refreshments will be for sale at intermission. Call 802.827.6626 to reserve seats and pay at the door.

ST. ALBANS--The Grind Open Mic hosted by Michael McCarthy takes over the coffee shop on Saturday at 3 - 7 p.m.
The event is open to musicians, stand up comedy, and poetry reading. Serving coffee drinks all night, along with beer, wine, and plenty of food choices with some of the best local talent that this community has to offer.
GEORGIA--The Supercharged Georgia Fall Festival features Carol Ann Jones and the Superchargers on Saturday at 5 p.m. The 11th annual celebration is the Georgia Recreation Committee's largest event of the year with activities, food and fireworks.
ST. ALBANS--14th Star presents Full Share rocking the Taproom Stage on Saturday at 6 p.m.
The group includes Andrea Costello, lead vocals, saxophone, flute; John Bardeau, vocals, lead guitar; Tim Campbell, keyboards, guitar; Pete Coutu, vocals, bass; and Brian Crogan, drums, percussion. They came together last year to form a solid band with a set list of great hits.
ST. ALBANS--The Eloquent Page hosts local author Peter Shea to discuss and sign his newest book, Collateral Trout A Vermonter's Angling Memoirs and Fishy Tales, on Friday at 5 p.m. FRANKLIN COUNTY BOOKSHELF
Mr. Shea has published four previous books: In the Company of Trout, Long Trail Trout, Vermont's Trophy Waters, and Vermont's Trout Ponds. I sense a theme in an evening of fun and fish.
