LIVE BANDS

ST. ALBANS--SATEC presents the Winter Bands and Orchestra Concert in the gym this evening at 7 p.m. The snow date is Friday.
      The concert features all SATEC instrumental groups including the first public performance by the Beginner Band, plus the Intermediate Band, Advanced Band, Jazz Ensemble, and new this year, the Orchestra. Email Band Director Andrew Palumbo for more info.


ART ON THE WALLS

MONTPELIER--Vermont Artists to Watch 2019 hosts an Opening Reception in the Vermont Arts Council Spotlight Gallery on Friday at 5 p.m. The survey of contemporary Vermont art in exhibition and print. The survey of contemporary Vermont art that commands attention features Sarah Amos of Enosburg Falls and Andrew Orr of Richford as well as Clark Derbes, Hasso Ewing, Andrew Frost, Sean Hunter Williams, Elizabeth Nagle, Rhonda Ratray, and Jackson Tupper.
      The exhibition runs from January 7 through February 28.


ART YOU CREATE

MONTGOMERY--The Montgomery Center for the Arts continues a Figure Drawing Workshop in the LAB at MCAKeltonHall today at 5 p.m. The workshop carries on every Thursday through December 26. Each week a very groovy group of artists gather to work and socialize.


ST. ALBANS--The Grind Cafe hosts a Coffee Mug Paint n Sip on Saturday at 11 a.m.
      Victoria Vining offers a guided painting of personal mugs. This paint n sip will get you a hand crafted drink and a hand painted coffee mug to enjoy. $20 includes the mug and a coffee. Call 413.717.5327 or email for more info.


ST. ALBANS--Twiggs hosts Paint Nite: Winter Owls on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
      "Paint Nites" have become regular and creative social events that introduce or reintroduce art to people. Artist Diane Kingston will provide all the materials to create your own painting. Click here for tickets. Use code PNfbVT for 40% off.


FILM

ST. ALBANS--14th Star Movie Nights continue in The Room, on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. Doors at 6 p.m.
      This year, 14th Star has a poll to choose the movie they will screen. Thursday's choices are Back to the Future, Raiders of the Lost Ark, and Jurassic Park. Find them on Facebook for more info and to vote for this month's featured presentation.
      Come early to claim a seat and enjoy some movie trivia. There will be plenty of seating, or feel free to bring a blanket and pillow and get cozy on the floor. Free popcorn for all who attend, a full dinner menu from Grazers, and, of course, craft beer.


ON STAGE LIVE

Thursday
SOUTH HERO--The Blue Paddle Bistro presents Carol Ann Jones in a solo singer-songwriter performance in the main dining room on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. Ms. Jones will appear the third Thursday of each month.

Friday
ST. ALBANS--The Bayside Pavilion presents Ourselves Alone live at Bayside on Friday at 6 p.m.
      With acoustic guitar, electronic drums and harmony, Bill Snide and Laura Fedele will play old and new favorites in their own style.


JEFFERSONVILLE--Martell's at the Red Fox presents the Nobby Reed Project on Friday at 8 p.m.
      The pub and sports bar has pub favorites, local draft beers, and an open stage for local bands and other live entertainment on weekends.


Friday-Saturday
ST. ALBANS--Twiggs presents acoustic trio AmerikanaBlue on Friday and the rock, the blues, and the odd country song of John Howell on Saturday. Shows begin at 7 p.m.

Saturday
ALBURG--The American Legion Post 60 invites you to the Nobby Reed Project's benefit concert for the Arnold family on Saturday at 8 p.m.
      John and Lisa Arnold lost their house in a fire on Christmas day. Everyone in the house escaped without injury. The house was a total loss.


Sunday
BURLINGTON--The Vermont Youth Orchestra takes over the Flynn Main Stage for the Winter Concert on Sunday at 3 p.m.
      The VYO welcomes Counterpoint, Vermont's professional vocal ensemble, as a special guest. Under the direction of Nathaniel Lew, Counterpoint will perform a capella renditions of spirituals and songs associated with the Civil Rights Movement to celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s 90th birthday. The orchestra will perform a tribute to MLK by Duke Ellington. Soloist Sebastiaan West will be featured in a performance of the festive opening movement from Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 1.

     The Milton Artists' Guild has a new YouTube channel with videos of the Featured Artist of the Month (Kimberlee Forney for January), introductions, live demonstrations, music, and more. bit.ly/MAGchannel
