     Franklin County's arts and music gatherings bring new opportunities, gossip, "show-and-tell" and occasional workshops. There are also booked and acoustic Open Mic Nights that feature music, readings, and more from the best new artists in Vermont.

PLEIN AIR

GEORGIA--The Milton Artist Guild hosts a spring Plein Air event at Claire Payne Studios with a live demonstration by Eric Tobin on Saturday at 10 a.m. - 3 p.m.
      En plein air is the act and art of painting outdoors. Claire Payne Studios is an historic property with stunning outdoor views and endless painting opportunities. Regional artist Eric Tobin will give a live demonstration for all participants. The event will be held rain or shine. In the event of rain there will be a still-life set up inside to accommodate participants who prefer to paint inside, and there is a canopied space that may be used. All participants are encouraged to bring a light dish to share. There will be a reception immediately following at the Studio for artists to discuss their work and share their experiences.
      The cost is $20 for MAG members and $25 for nonmembers. Space is limited. Click here register to reserve a spot and for more info.


ART YOU CREATE

ST. ALBANS--Release your inner Picasso! The Artist in Residence will host a Paint & Sip Fundraiser with artist Patrick Murphy at the Barlow Street Community Center on Friday at 6 p.m.
      Painting sunflowers Friday evening will help raise the final $4,000 for closing costs for the purchase of the building. The cost is $35/person and includes all materials.


ST. ALBANS--The Grind Cafe offers a Fathers Day Paint N Sip with Victoria Courtney Rosen Vining on Saturday at 12 noon.
      Do a painting with your dad, of your dad, or for your dad. The cost is $20/person which includes the instructed painting session and a medium size drink of your choice from the Grind.


ST. ALBANS--Twiggs hosts Paint Nite: Swing into Summer on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
      Led by Diane Kingston, this Paint Nite goes go from a blank canvas to a masterpiece. The cost is $35. Click here to reserve a ticket. Use the code YAYfbVT10off for $10 off.


IN THE SAC

SWANTON--The Swanton Arts Council will film the Year of the Salmon at the Missisquoi National Wildlife Refuge on Saturday from 9 a.m. - 6 p.m.
      The script was written in a writing slam that weaves fictional characters with facts provided by the Refuge to tell the story of this natural heritage. The Lake Champlain Basin Program provided a 2019 Champlain Valley National Heritage Partnership Local Heritage Grant for the community generated original film.

ST. ALBANS--The Old Foundry at One Federal present the X-Rays in the Thursday Night Music Series this evening at 7 p.m.
      Joe Moore, alto, tenor and baritone saxes, penny whistle, and percussion; Tom Freiheit, rhythm and lead guitar; Chris Kutchukain, drums; and Peter Riley, bass; are a "rocking, swinging, bluesy quartet" from Burlington.

ST. ALBANS--Twiggs presents the Notable Duo of Bella and Preston in their Twiggs debut with some swingin' jazz standards on Thursday. The Bob MacKenzie Blues Trio takes over on Friday. Local Legends the Balladeer and Bluesman, Cooper and Lavoie wind it up Saturday evening. Shows begin at 7 p.m.

ESSEX JUNCTION--On Tap offers Graziano Schofield & Slim on Friday at 5 p.m. Phil Graziano, guitar; Ken Schofield, percussion/harmonica; and Missisquoi Slim Scott DuBois, "dog house"; play roots and rock-a-billy music. MILTON--Arrowhead Golf Course hosts Shake the Band for the Friday Night Live Music and Buffet on Friday at 6:30 p.m. Friday's theme is "Disney." The meatball sub buffet starts around 7 p.m. Both run until 9 p.m.
      The buffet costs $11 per person ($5 for each child). You don't have to be a member; the public is welcome. Be sure to come early, usually around 6, to get a good seat.

Friday-Sunday
WORCESTER--The 13th annual Carolan Festival features Fiddleheads and harp students with Dominique Dodge. The three-day celebration takes over the Mallery Farm starting Friday and continuing through Sunday. Fiddleheads take the stage on Saturday at 4 p.m.
      The festival is a gathering for people who play, listen, sing, or dance to the music of Turlough Carolan (1670-1738), blind Irish harper and composer. 214 of his tunes have survived. All Irish music, many of his compositions have a Baroque influence.

Saturday
SOUTH BURLINGTON--Higher Ground presents the Music of the Grateful Dead for Kids as a Father's Day celebration on Saturday at noon. Doors at 11.
      The Rock and Roll Playhouse is a family concert series for kids to "move, play and sing while listening to works from the classic-rock canon." The Playhouse bills itself as "an early and often first introduction to a child's lifelong journey with live music and rock and roll." Admission is $15 and children under 1 are admitted free. ST. ALBANS--14th Star Brewing Company presents Tim Brick live on the taproom stage on Saturday at 6 p.m. The winner of the 2017 Tammie Award for Best Country Album writes and performs music with a "soulful edge" but he isn't afraid to get rowdy.


ST. ALBANS--Nelly's presents the Jolly Roger live on stage on Saturday at 9:30 p.m.
      Alan Wood, guitar and vocals; Jack Dodd, bass and vocals; and Wayne Wanser, drums; play classic, danceable rock 'n' roll. Cover charge at the door.


Tuesday
ENOSBURG FALLS--The Enosburg Town Band plays a weekly free summer concert in Lincoln Park on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
      Bring a chair or a blanket to enjoy an hour long concert under the stars under the direction of Alisa Martin. Performances will continue on Tuesday evenings at 7 p.m. through August 21.


Wednesday
SHELDON-The Sheldon Historical Society Tea Party takes place at the home of Kim and Jack Dufresne on Wednesday at 3 - 5 p.m.
      The proper English Tea with soup and pastries, live music, and a doorprize for the best hat is a benefit for the Sheldon Historical Society. Admission is $25/person. Call or visit the Sheldon Town Office (802.933.4630) to reserve tickets or for more info.


ST. ALBANS--The Citizens Concert Band kicks off the Downtown Summer Concert Series in the E.A. Loomis Bandshell in Taylor Park on Wednesday at 7 p.m. ("All other concerts begin at 5:30. This is the only time change in the series.") 14th Star Brewing and the Traveling Canteen serve food and drink at all of this year's Summer Concert Series events.
      The rain site is the Room at 14th Star. Admission is free.


MORRISVILLE--The Wednesday Night Live summer music series continues with Spider Roulette in Oxbow Riverfront Park on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. The series continues each week through August 21.
      The River Arts tent will offer fabric collages this week and the Lamoille Dance Academy will perform. There is a rotating mix of food vendors every week, from American barbecue to Nepalese staples.
