SWANTON--Scott Rheaume leads a demonstration and workshop on the Wild Boomers and Stumpf Fiddles at the Swanton Free Public Library on Thursday, December 12, at 5:30 p.m. FIDDLIN' AROUND
The event will show how to play and create Stumpf Fiddles and reestablish the Wild Boomers Band. The Wild Boomers played in the old Swanton Summer Festival parades and traveled farther afield. They wowed the crowd plucking homemade instruments for "old time" rock 'n' roll at the annual Burke Fall Festival and the Richmond Fourth of July as recently as 2009.

ST. ALBANS--Relay for Life Franklin County hosts a fundraising Holiday Craft Show in City Hall on Saturday at 9 a.m. - 3 p.m.
The team show features over 40 vendors with all varieties of handmade and homemade goods, just in time for the holiday season. Email Pam Hakey for more info.

MONTGOMERY--Montgomery Center for the Arts hosts the Herbalist Basket with Alexa Rivera at MCAKeltonHall on Sunday at 10 a.m. - 3 p.m.
The owner and spirit weaver at Wovn.Country leads a basket-weaving intensive to make personal herb gathering baskets. Snacks and herbal tea will be provided. Bring a pencil, a flat head screwdriver, and scissors. The cost is $95 per person. Click here for tickets and more info.
ST. ALBANS--Twiggs hosts Paint Nite: Truckin' the Tree on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
Artist Diane Kingston introduces "art to many that have never painted, and witnessing the thrill and confidence that comes from the creative process." Paint Nite will provide all the materials to create your own painting and provides "the refreshments you need!"

MIAMI--Art Basel Miami Beach, self described as the most important art show in the United States, ran this past week. ART YOU CREATE
It brings renowned artists and cutting-edge newcomers, a selection of more than 250 galleries, special exhibitions, parties, music, film, architecture and design to Miami Beach. The exhibition sites are located in the Art Deco District, within walking distance of the beach.
So, what makes an international show in Florida interesting in Franklin County? It will set the stage for how much art and apparently how much fruit is sold around the world in 2020.
Someone ate the $120,000 banana at Art Basel Miami Beach this past weekend.
One banana.
The real, ripe, edible banana titled Comedian is the work of Italian artist Maurizio Cattelan. He had duct-taped the banana to an outer gallery wall; it comes with a Certificate of Authenticity. The piece really did sell to an art collector for $120,000. The proud new owners were told that they can replace the banana, as needed, although Sr. Cattelan did not include instructions.
A New York-based performance artist ate the banana in full view of the convention center visitors on Saturday. Despite the loss of the central piece, the gallery's museum relations director said that doesn't diminish the integrity of the six-figure art work.
I guess that to understand that, one had to visit Miami to see the missing banana for oneself.
SWANTON--The Swanton Arts Council Writer's Group will meet at the Swanton Free Public Library this evening at 6 p.m. Members can share progress and join in the discussion about longer projects and anything else about writing, reading, publishing, and more. IN THE SAC

ST. ALBANS--Film School at the Grind Cafe continues its 12-week term for kids from 5th-8th grade on Tuesday at 4 p.m. Making a Short Film for Youtube will teach film production from start to finish. ST. ALBANS--14th Star Brewing Company presents Full Share on the taproom stage on Saturday at 6 p.m.
Burlington's Andrea Costello, lead vocals, saxophone, flute; John Bardeau, vocals, lead guitar; Tim Campbell, keyboards, guitar; Pete Coutu, vocals, bass; and Brian Crogan, percussion; are an eclectic rock band covering songs from Jesse J, Kelly Clarkson, Bruno Mars, Sheryl Crow, Heart, Boston, Kansas, and Journey.
ST. ALBANS--Saint Paul's United Methodist Church hosts Winter Praise Night with bands from Georgia Plain Baptist Church, St. Paul's UMC, and Church of the Rock along with the Smokey Newfield Project beginning with a free Soup Dinner on Saturday at 5pm.
Admission is free event, but an offering will be taken for local non-profits, including the Samaritan House and Martha's Kitchen. Bring a non-perishable food item for the local food shelf. Find them on Facebook for more info.
ST. ALBANS--The Saint Albans Museum presents the Carol Ann Jones Quartet with Will Patton, Gary Spaulding, and Dono Schabner in the seventh annual Holiday Benefit Concert and Sing-along in the Bliss Room overlooking the lights of Taylor Park on Saturday at 7 p.m.

ST. ALBANS--Eleven rocks the Holiday Office Party at Nelly's on Saturday at 8 p.m.
The trio of Scott Guptill, guitar and vocals; Taylor Arsenault, vocals; and Scott Belisle, bass and vocals covers a musical barrage of hits from the 70s to the 90s.

EAST FAIRFIELD--The Fairfield Community Center hosts Holiday Song and Celebration at the Meeting House on the Green on Sunday from 3 - 6 p.m.
The evening of seasonal song and celebration includes sleigh rides, spirited caroling, tree lighting, holiday treats, and neighborly good cheer. Find them on Facebook for more info.
ST. ALBANS--Jesse Agan returns to Music n' Brews at Mill River Brewing to play acoustic live in the brewhouse at 3 p.m.
As a solo artist, the Vermont singer/songwriter adds a "modern touch to popular rock music." He is also a vocalist and the guitarist of Shake the Band.

AROUND VERMONT--The second week in January is Mandolin Week in Vermont as the new Vermont Mandolin Trio will perform a series of four concerts around the state. Matt Flinner, Jamie Masefield and Will Patton have a "wide ranging selection of tunes" for Burlington, Woodstock, Lincoln, and Greensboro.
