OK, that was a stretch, even for me, but the Tenth Annual Franklin County Quilt Show is definitely loaded for our furry friends this weekend. "We give a large, bed size quilt to a local organization each year," Sharon Perry said. "This year it will go to the Humane Society." QUILTED FOR BEAR
Franklin County Quilters Guild of St. Albans celebrates its first decade of this show with a new, expanded format. "There will be over 100 quilts on display," Ms. Perry said, including bed quilts, crib quilts, miniature quilts, and wall hangings as well as demonstrations of quilting techniques.
Every quilt in the exhibit was made by guild members. Vermont Mystery Quilts also made by guild members will be on special exhibit. The show includes vendors of quilting supplies such as "sewing notions, fabric and the like" as well as a silent auction of handmade quilts. Proceeds go to the Guild to underwrite the program that has provided over 1000 quilts to organizations to provide comfort or to help raise funds.
Admission is free. Show hours are 9:00 a.m.- 4:00 p.m. on Saturday and 10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. on Sunday.

ENOSBURG FALLS--The Artist In Residence Gallery features different artists each month. This month, the spotlight is on the paintings of Tess Beemer, wood turner Bob Fletcher, Nan Adriance' textiles, and the nature photography of Gustav Verderber. There is an Artists Reception with refreshments on the first Thursday of each month. Tonight the gallery will be rocking from 5 till 8 p.m. ART ON THE WALLS
The Artist in Residence art cooperative features paintings, fiber arts, stained glass, sculpture, lamps, pottery, folk art boxes, scarves, hats and more by 45 Franklin County and surrounding area artists. It is owned and operated by the artists and sponsors. The Village Frame Shoppe is located within the coop as a resident framer. The Blue Crayon, a small private studio, is available there for individual or small group lessons. The gallery, located at 349 Main Street, is open Wednesday-Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The current exhibit runs through the month of April.
BURLINGTON--Art's Alive presents the second annual Spring Fine Art Exhibit by Franklin County artists at Union Station. The exhibit and sale continues through April 27. The exhibit features Harald Aksdal, Rebecca Anne Bennett, Emily Billings, Jonathan Billings, Gordon Boomhower, Jane Bower, Claire Dunn, Jim Foote, Mary Ann Godin, Barbara Hamm, David Juaire, Suzanne Kenyon, Anita Michelle, Pat Murphy, Autumn Parry, Stina Plant, Karen Day Vath, and Maggy Young.
There will be a "Meet the Artists" reception tomorrow evening as part of the First Friday Art Walk at Union Station in Burlington. Rain or snow showers notwithstanding. The free evening is a chance to mingle with arts lovers from around the Champlain Valley. First Friday Art Walk opens the doors of Burlington's visual arts community with guided tours and independent walks to visit local art venues tomorrow evening from 5-8 p.m. Walking tours leave the Firehouse Gallery every half hour starting at 5:30 p.m.; the last tour leaves at 7 p.m.
The Art's Alive gallery is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Union Station is located at One Main Street at the western edge of Burlington. Admission is free.
BURLINGTON--ARTworksHERE features 15 Vermont artists including Gail Salzman of Fairfield in the Firehouse Gallery. That Burlington City Arts exhibit runs from tomorrow through April 24 with an opening reception tomorrow evening as part of First Friday Art Walk from 5-8 p.m.
The Firehouse Gallery is at 135 Church Street. It is open Tuesday through Sunday from 12 noon to 5 p.m. Admission is free.
BURLINGTON--Fairfield artist Gail Salzman has two shows running simultaneously. First is her solo exhibit now through June 29 in the Main Street Corridor gallery of Fletcher Allen Health Care. She is also part of the ARTworksHERE exhibit of Vermont artists in the Firehouse Gallery.
Ms. Salzman has been called "one of New England's great colorists." Her exhibits include vibrant abstract oil paintings that celebrate the complexity of nature.
ST ALBANS--The Northwestern Medical Center Gallery hosts CarePartners Adult Day Center (formerly Club Respite) this month.
"This is our third year at the Hospital," Sue Chase said. Artist Tim Hodet started the project working with the participants at CarePartners. The artists there have the chance to try new techniques or to return to the talents that pleased them in the past.
The show continues through the end of April.
FAIRFAX and FLETCHER--Vermont Youth Orchestra Association and the VYO Chorus have been on the road this week to begin their annual VYOA school tours. The visits include performances, demonstrations, and discussions. The Vermont Youth Strings, led by conductor David Gusakov, visits BFA-Fairfax Elementary School and Fletcher Elementary School today. Troy Peters and the VYO will perform on the Late Night Saturday, a WCAX Channel 3 production on, not surprisingly, Saturday evening ad 11:30 p.m.

ST. ALBANS--Knights of Columbus will host a Country Soiree BBQ Dance tomorrow evening at the Knights of Columbus Hall in St. Albans. Cocktail hour starts at 6, dinner at 7 p.m. and the dancing should follow for the rest of the evening to the live country music of Bob and Val.

LENNOXVILLE--The Church Street Cafe presents the Will Patton Ensemble with special guest Anna Patton tomorrow evening at 8 p.m. in the Gertrude Scott Hall of Lennoxville United Church in Quebec. The quartet with Mr. Patton, jazz mandolin; Dono Schnaber, guitar; David Gusskov, violin; and clarinetist Anna Patton performs hot gypsy jazz, fiery Brazilian sambas and folk waltzes, gentle choros, and original compositions.

ESSEX JUNCTION--The Lincoln Inn offers some favorites this week. Tonight is WCLX Blues night with Summer Sounds performers Shellhouse at 7 p.m. and the Phil Abair Band on Saturday at 9 p.m. Wednesday is the weekly Celtic Party/Ceili at 7 p.m.
