Highgate voters approved the Town Budget on Tuesday so Summer Sounds will begin in July. The concerts will always be in Highgate Municipal, always on Sunday nights, always at 7 p.m., and always free. TOWN MEETING
"I'm looking forward to it," Town Administrative Assistant Michelle Douglas said.
Voters also approved the Highgate Elementary School budget which means the art, music and literacy programs will maintain a sound footing in this Town. "We have a great need here in Highgate," Highgate Principal Madeline Young said. "We're teaching the whole child and that's what we can do with the arts."
ENOSBURG FALLS--The Artist In Residence Gallery features different artists each month. This month, the spotlight is on the spotlight is on the textiles of Vermont Bag Lady Nan Adriance and paintings by both Tess Beemer and Sharon Fiske. The A.I.R. gallery hosts a free meet-the-artists reception with refreshments tonight from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. The exhibit continues through the end of March. ART ON THE WALLS
The Artist in Residence art cooperative features paintings, fiber arts, stained glass, sculpture, lamps, pottery, folk art boxes, scarves, hats and more by 45 Franklin County and surrounding area artists. It is owned and operated by the artists and sponsors. The Village Frame Shoppe is located within the coop as a resident framer. The Blue Crayon, a small private studio, is available there for individual or small group lessons. The gallery, located at 349 Main Street, is open Wednesday-Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
ST ALBANS--The Northwestern Medical Center Gallery hosts Vermont landscape photographer David Juaire this month. "The color in his fall scenes is spectacular," coordinator Dolly MacNeil said.
A Franklin County native, Mr. Juaire was brought up on a dairy farm. He works primarily with a medium format (film) camera and has begun branching out into digital photography. Vermont Life Magazine features his work in the magazine and calendars.
The show continues through the end of March.
Fiddleheads are busy this week and next with gigs in Fairfield, in Essex, and at Burlington Irish Heritage Festival. ON STAGE LIVE
ESSEX JUNCTION--Tonight is WCLX Blues Night at the Lincoln Inn featuring Jim Branca and the Mystic Mojo Gang at 7 p.m. The Inn will host Celtic Party Night with Fiddleheads on Tuesday at 7 p.m. They are closed for Winter Solstice on Monday.
"The mystic Knights of the Mojo are ready to bust loose on high octane, original tunes to rip through your cabin fever and make you lose those Mid-Winter blues," Jimmy B. said.

FAIRFIELD--Imagine sitting down to a full dinner on Saturday and helping a food shelf. That may seem like buying books at a library, but the Fairfield Community Center invites everyone, no experience necessary, to a dinner dance on Saturday night. The benefit for the Fairfield Food Shelf includes a wholesome dinner of organic and local foods and a contra dance with caller Mark Sustic and Fiddleheads, all at the Fairfield School on Saturday evening, 5:30-9 p.m.

MONTPELIER--Poetry Out Loud has students from across the state competing for top honors and the opportunity to represent Vermont at the national poetry competition in Washington, D.C. The finals in this project to inspire a creative state take place in the City Hall Arts Center on Saturday at 1 p.m.
The competition is presented by the National Endowment for the Arts, the Poetry Foundation, Vermont Alliance of Arts Education, and the Vermont Humanities Council. Admission is free; the event is open to the public.
NORWICH--Norwich University hosts International Folk Dancing with Anna Patton's group Xopo featuring Ms. Patton, Becky Ashenden, Barbara Blumenthal, Joe Blumenthal, Chuck Corman, and Miamon Miller in Tracy Hall on Sunday from 3 - 6 p.m. Bring clean, soft-soled shoes.

BURLINGTON--The 14th annual Irish Heritage Festival begins with an Open Irish Session at Radio Bean at 9 p.m. in Burlington.
The Vermont Arts Council statewide "listening tour" draws to a close this week with a final meeting on Vermont Interactive Television in St. Albans. The discussion is hosted at the B.F.A.-St. Albans facility on Monday, March 9, at 5:30 p.m. TELL THEM WHAT YOU REALLY THINK
The listening tour has focused on our ideas of the means to sustain and grow the arts during economically challenging times. This is our opportunity to tell the state arts council how to operate. They have developed five questions they need answered.
- Given the current funding climate, how can the Arts Council continue to "inspire a creative state?"
- With the potential of a dramatic reduction in our resources, what should the Arts Council's priorities be?
- Aside from grants, which of the programs the Council currently offers are most important to you?
- What's working in your community? How is the value of the arts being demonstrated?
- What opportunities and/or partnerships would you like to see the Arts Council pursue?

Skirts? Kilts, of course. The Crann Tara Pipes & Drums Company wears the tartan of the Scottish Rugby Union. Crann Tara is a competitive highland pipe band that participates in numerous competitions, parades, and other events throughout the snowy Northeast.
