MARK YOUR CALENDARS--The Maple Festival is coming! The Maple Festival is coming! MAPLEY GOODNESS
The Main Street Stage for the 44th running of Vermont's first major outdoor festival of the year will offer free, continuous entertainment starting next Friday, April 30, and running through Sunday, May 2. Look for Big Bands, country bands, magicians, instrumentalists, classic ensembles, rock bands, storytellers, choruses, dancers, puppeteers, and more.
Did I mention that the Main Street Stage is free?
Friday's lineup includes the Electric Youth Dance Company, Marko the Magician, and Keeghan Nolan. Saturday will have Fiddleheads, the Joe Levesque Big Band, Redhouse, Bill Shontz, and a medley of Talent Show Kids. Sunday has the Parade, plus the Citizens Concert Band and the St. Albans City School Senior Band.
I'm going out on a (maple tree) limb now. I predict that Friday will be sunny with some puffy clouds and about 63°. Saturday may be a degree or two warmer. Sunday could have the odd shower but will hit 70°. You might want a jacket. You definitely want your shades.

The Swanton Public Library will host renowned Vermont writer, humorist (and Messenger reporter) Leon Thompson reading in Swanton for the first time ever on Saturday from 2-4 p.m. Mr. Thompson will read from his collective works in his hometown FULL SERVICE--LOCAL EDITION
"Expect to hear plenty of Swantonese," he said, as reads and signs copies of Good Junk, dork. - another look at my junk and Not Too Awful Bad: A Storyteller's Guide to Vermont. He will read at 2:30 p.m.
The library will serve refreshments. Admission is free.
SILVER SPRING, MD--The first Amnesty International Human Rights Art Festival begins tomorrow and runds through Sunday. The multi-venue, multi-media event brings together artists, businesses and politicians in a human rights and justice event. Each day offers visual art shows, new media events, performance art, spoken word, theater, book readings, panel discussions, film, music, hands-on workshops, art walks, parades, international foods, and more. The festival begins at 4 pm and runs 10 a.m. through late night Saturday and Sunday. ART ON THE WALLS

MONTPELIER--April is National Poetry Month so the state capitol will fill with art and poetry in the POETRY Alive! installation and Art Walk on Friday. The day includes poetry readings and artist receptions 4 to 8 p.m.
Exhibits range from Artisans Hand Craft Gallery, the Artists Resource Association, and Aubuchon Hardware to the Vermont Historical Society Museum and the Vermont Supreme Court. Adorn! will a reception for artist and owner Tregea Bevan.
Vermont College of Fine Arts will host a Group Poetry Reading with Jody Gladding , Wyn Cooper, Kerrin McCadden, Izabel Nielsen, Sophia Manley, and Paige Ackerson-Keily at 4:30 p.m. Randolph poet Linda Corelia will be read at The Shoe Horn at 7 p.m.

MANSFIELD, MASS--The 66th annual New England Folk Festival blends dance, music, crafts, and food from many lands, starting tomorrow and running through Sunday at the Mansfield High and Middle Schools. Programming begins at 7 p.m. tomorrow evening. ON STAGE LIVE
Performers range from Amaya Abadia-Manthei and Matthew Abbate to Zornitsa and Larry Zuk. All performers donate their talents as volunteers.
Admission ranges from $5 for a child tomorrow evening to $75 for Adult Non-Members for the entire weekend event. Click here for all the details.
BURLINGTON--PossumHaw host a CD Release Concert at North End Studio tomorrow at 8 p.m. Colby Crehan, Ryan Crehan, Charley Eiseman, Pat Melvin, and Steve Waud play original bluegrass and folk lead by the songwriting and vocals of Ms. Crehan. She is also female vocalist of the Bluegrass Gospel Project.
PossumHaw will play Summer Sounds this summer.

BURLINGTON--The Main Street Landing Black Box Theater presents Cindy Mangsen and Steve Gillette, Hungrytown (Rebecca Hall and Ken Anderson), the Beeline Ramblers (Lisa Burnstine-Mandeville and Fran Mandeville) and Pete and Karen Sutherland Saturday evening at 7:30 p.m. in honor of National Poetry Month. The concert benefits the Champlain Valley Folk Festival.

Laotian poet Phayvanh Luekhamhan of Montpelier sells poems on the street, publishes them "every now and then," and performs throughout New England.
