BFA-St. Albans will hold its final choral concert in the new Performing Arts Center this evening at 7 p.m. The concert will feature several vocal ensembles, soloists, and the 100-member Academy Chorus singing works from classical, sacred, African-American spirituals, Broadway and popular music including Choose Something Like a Star from Randall Thompson's Frostiana, the traditional Deep River, Johnny I Hardly Knew Ye, Set Me as A Seal, Some Enchanted Evening, and the Star Spangled Banner. Seniors will sing the Cantate Domino. The chorus will also perform several numbers including Bless the Broken Road and I Got a Feeling with a combo of bass, piano and drums. BIG VOICES, NEW STAGE
The featured soloists are junior Lauren Handy and senior Meghan Susslin.
The BFA Chorus is directed by choral director Armand Messier. 2006 BFA Alumnus Danielle Yandow, a recent music education graduate of Plymouth State University will guest conduct several pieces.
Concert events at BFA are not just "open to the public"; they are exciting musical adventures in an exceptional new facility. Admission is free.
SOUTH BURLINGTON--Higher Ground presents 8084 in the first show of their reunion tour, tomorrow night at 8:30 p.m. ON STAGE LIVE
This tour brings the original members of 8084 -- singer-songwriter, Randy Smith; Andre Maquera, guitars; Frank Barnes, bass; and Gary Spaulding, drums -- back to perform together for the first time since 2000. The famed pop rock group is still energetic, charismatic and pyrotechnic in music and effects. They have shared the stage with April Wine, Warrant, Edgar Winter, Blue Oyster Cult, Henry Lee Summer, and more and have played festivals and stadiums cross the United States. They helped organize and play Floodstock and have wowed the crowd in Summer Sounds.
One of my own favorite times backstage came at Floodstock when the April Wine setup included a canvas enclosure to hide the drum set until their show started. April Wine drummer Jerry Mercer sat in that private tent to play beat for bet with 8084 drummer Scott Belisle through the entire set.
Admission is $12 advance and $15 tomorrow night. 8084 will donate a portion of their proceeds to the Vermont Relay for Life. Click here for tickets and more info.

GRAND ISLE--The Grand Isle House Concerts present Summer Sounds favorites PossumHaw tomorrow evening at 7:30 p.m. These events offer top quality, live music in an intimate, lakeside setting. Seating is very limited.

HUNTINGTON--The Birds of Vermont Museum presents Go Wild, Go Birding Festival with Fiddleheads, Matt Witten, and others on Saturday. It is a walkathon that counts birds to fiddle music instead of miles. Click here for more info.
BURLINGTON--Seahorses Rally for Cindy hosts a benefit dinner, silent auction, raffle and concert featuring Carol Jones and Cindy Barrows with Will Patton, Colin McCaffrey, Jon Sochin and Dono Schaber at the Heineberg Center on Saturday beginning at 6 p.m.
Admission is $20 for adults, $5 for children under 12. Email for more info.
WHITE RIVER JUNCTION--The Tupelo Music Hall presents the Nobby Reed Project on Saturday at 8 p.m.

ST. ALBANS--Mark your calendars: Chow!Bella presents Sean Ashby next Thursday, May 26, at 7 p.m. He has appeared on the Grammy Awards, David Letterman, SNL, the Tonight Show and more.

OPERA HOUSE--The Enosburg Opera House is mounting two big summer musicals, Oliver! and Guys and Dolls, in July. They will hold auditions tomorrow afternoon, 3 - 7 p.m, Sunday afternoon, 2 - 6 p.m. and Monday evening, 6-8 p.m. at the Enosburg Falls High School Gymnasium. Actors should arrive at the start of the audition window to participate in introductions and group movement/dance time. Bring any works except music from Oliver or Guys and Dolls. An accompanist will be available. AUDITIONS
These are big productions -- fully staged, Oliver alone can have a cast of about 50 -- that need actors, dancers, singers, stage hands, and more. The Opera House needs pretty much everyone in Franklin County to come out.

VYO--The Vermont Youth Orchestra's orchestral and choral auditions continue through May 25 at the Elley-Long Music Center at Saint Michael's College. All auditions are free of charge and take just 10 minutes but you must make an appointment.
The Orchestra wants musicians currently in grades 3-11, with at least one year of experience on an instrument. Woodwind and brass players younger than seventh grade should have at least two years of experience on their instrument.
The Chorus wants singers currently in grades 4-11 who are able to read music, match pitch and blend with others.

2011 NATIONAL JURIED SHOW (May 23)--South Arkansas Arts Center wants 2D and 3D fine art entries for their 2011 competition. The exhibit is open to all artists 18 or older in the United States with artwork completed in the last two years. All styles and media are welcome; traditional and alternate media, as well as innovative and experimental approaches accepted. Cash prizes. Entry fee. CHANDLER AREA ARTIST SHOW (May 24-25)--The Local Artist Show at the Chandler Center for the Arts in Randolph is an open call exhibit with the guarantee to hang at least one piece from each submitting artist. The theme of "eARTh" is open to up to three pieces in any size or media but not works that have been shown at the Chandler Gallery in the past. This exhibit takes place May 28 - July 10 and features new work from established artists as well those exhibiting for the first time. Entry fee is $10. Chandler takes a 30% commission on any work that is sold. All work should all be framed or submitted in a way that allows them to be easily hung or displayed.

VACATION LOCATIONS (May 31)--The themed art exhibition and sale at the Rye Arts Center is open to all US artists working in two-dimensional media. The work should focus on scenes from popular vacation spots from around the world. Four prizes to the best pieces in the Fall, Winter, Spring and Summer categories. Entry fee. ARTS LEARNING GRANTS (June 1)--Any Vermont school, school district, supervisory union, or not-for-profit is eligible for funding to develop, plan, and implement arts education programming for in-school and/or out-of-school activities that support extended learning in and through the arts. The projects should include collaborations between arts groups, schools, and artists. Click here for more info.
Visual artist Marcy Hermansader of Putney trained as a sculptor creates "intimately scaled works on paper" that can be seen in the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, and the Robert Hull Fleming Museum.
