The Opera House at Enosburg Falls hosts its 17th annual Gala (and masked ball) on Saturday at 7 p.m. MOMENTOUS NIGHT OUT
The evening theme is Masquerade! "We encourage you to come in costume," Executive Director Suzi Hull-Parent said, "although costumes are not required to have fun."
The evening includes music and dancing with the Dixieland jazz/swing band Maple Leaf 7, scrumptious hor d'oeuvres from 158 Main in Jeffersonville, a complete bar, and a silent auction ongoing through the event.
"We really want people to like and enjoy what you see happening at the Opera House," Ms. Hull-Parent added.
With budgets stretched thin, the fundraiser is more crucial this year than ever before but it is more than that. "Shop local" applies to the arts just as much as it does to our farms and pharmacies. You'll have fun on Saturday, help keep the lights on, and your presence will encourage the volunteer Friends of the Opera House about the ongoing community interest.
Admission is $75 per couple or $37.50 individually. The fun-filled fundraiser benefits the Enosburg Opera House with a portion of the proceeds assisting a special project to explore and address addiction and its causes in Franklin County.

ST. ALBANS--The Bishop Street Artists host their annual Show and Sale at St. Luke's Episcopal Church this weekend. The show will be open Saturday, 10 a.m. - 5 p.m., and Sunday, 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. There will be a reception in the parish hall tomorrow evening, 5 - 8 p.m. ART ON THE WALLS
The public is invited to attend on Friday evening for a preview and to meet the artists and to enjoy the refreshments.
"Members of the art group are trying their hand at self portraits," Jane Bower said. "It should be widely varied and fun."
This show includes recent work by Ms. Bower, Pat Burton, Betty Casavant, Clair Dunn, Don Grenier, Barbara Hamm, Jill Jones, Dorothy Lear, Beth Maginn, Terry Sheets, Meta Strick, Shanley Triggs and Linda Wirts. The artists have invited friends to display some of their own work -- a new feature for this year.
Ms. Dunn, Ms. Strick and Ms. Triggs have donated works for a raffle. Tickets are available now for a drawing to be held at the reception.

SOUTH BURLINGTON-- Higher Ground and Young Tradition Vermont present Genticorum at Higher Ground on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
Genticorum has brought Quebecois music and culture to more than 15 countries in North America, Europe, Asia and Oceania. The group weaves precise and intricate fiddle and flute work, vocal harmonies, foot percussion, plus guitar and bass into a dynamic mix of traditional Quebecois, North American, European, and original folk songs.
The power trio includes Yann Falquet on guitar, jew's harp, vocals; Alexandre de Grosbois-Garand on wooden flute, electric bass, fiddle, vocals; and Pascal Gemme on fiddle, feet, vocals. Their latest album, Nagez Rameurs, is a Hudson's Bay Co. oarsman's exhortation to "pull together, rowers." The album Malins Plaisirs won the Canadian Folk Music Award and was nominated for JUNO and Felix Awards.

Meg Cossaboom has sent out a "call to artists" for her first (and hopefully annual) Halloween Concert to benefit the Optimist Newspaper. CALL FOR AREA MUSICAL ARTISTS
"I am looking for artists, singers, dancers, actors, musicians, performers of all types to join me on stage for an exciting evening of spooky fun!" she said.
Ms. Cossaboom plans a variety show with "all acts/routines/songs/numbers somehow related to Halloween/fall/or creepiness." She herself will sing and can accompany other singers on piano.
The show will be held Saturday, October 29, at the Franklin Town Hall with a rehearsal next week to go through sound checks and get familiar with the space. Call 802.373.2372 or email to perform or for more info.
FOLIAGE ART IN THE PARK (September 19)--Rutland Area Art Association's Art in the Park marks 50 continuous years of exhibits. Despite the battering by Irene, the Chaffee Art Center will host Art in the Park's juried Fine Art and Craft Festivals. There is a $25 jury fee as well as booth fees. BOUNTIFUL (October 1)--And a short turnaround. the Mount Vernon Arts Commission regional juried visual arts show ties in to the harvest season. WAX, INC. (October 3)--This juried South Shore Art Center show is open to all artists working in wax media. The work must be recent and not previously shown at SSAC.
