BURLINGTON--Select Design in collaboration with Furchgott Sourdiffe Gallery features a Fairfield artist in the exhibit Variations in Abstraction: Steven P. Goodman, Beth Pearson, and Gail Salzman. ART ON THE WALLS
Gail Salzman has been called "one of New England's great colorists." She is known for her translucent layers and the looping lines that reflect her love of water. Ms. Salzman has exhibited extensively throughout the East Coast for over twenty years. She has received a painting award from the NEA and grants from the Vermont Arts Council and the Vermont Arts Endowment Fund.

ENOSBURG FALLS--The Artist In Residence Gallery features different artists each month. The cooperative gallery starts the new year with a look at up and coming artists in the area with the spotlight on works by students from Richford and Enosburg Falls High Schools in classes with teachers and gallery members Pam Voss and Pat Murphy. Also featured is woodturner Nick Rosato. Whose star platters, bowls, rolling pins, salt and pepper shakers are found in homes throughout the area.
The A.I.R. gallery has changed the date of its free, monthly, meet-the-artists reception to take advantage of the higher level of sunshine on winter Sunday afternoons. The reception will be this Sunday, January 8, with refreshments from 1 - 4 p.m. The exhibit continues through the end of January.
The Artist in Residence art cooperative features paintings, fiber arts, stained glass, sculpture, lamps, pottery, folk art boxes, scarves, hats and more by 45 Franklin County and surrounding area artists. It is owned and operated by the artists and sponsors. The gallery, located at 321 Main Street, is open Wednesday-Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. plus the first Sunday of each month, noon to 5 p.m.
ESSEX JUNCTION--On Tap at the Lincoln Inn offers Blues Night with the Nobby Reed Project tonight at 7 p.m. and the Phil Abair Band tomorrow at 9 p.m. ON STAGE LIVE

ST. ALBANS--Chow Bella presents Abby Road live in the Chow! Cabaret on Saturday evening, 7 - 9 p.m.
A family band from St. Albans, Abby Road played opening night at the new Chow. They will offer covers and old rock, bluegrass, and some original music.

WESTFORD--The Westford Winter Music Series presents Carol Ann Jones and Will Patton in the UCW White Church on the town green on Sunday at 4 p.m. Ms. Jones, singer/songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist Mr. Patton will perform original compositions as well as popular favorites.

2012 will be another busy year in the arts with another 250 concerts, exhibits, recitals, and shows from more than 40 organizations. This column has info about upcoming All Arts Council and Opera House events plus the Five Franklin County Festivals and Town Band plans. We will cover Other Major Presenter plans next week. ALL ARTS COUNCIL WISH LIST
Every Franklin County presenter has planned another year of "really big shews" so we all need money and volunteers. From Art in Bloom to Young Tradition-Vermont, please remember that volunteers and a permanent base make up the "back room" each of these groups needs to . The AAC needs volunteers to offer the marketing and technical help, have resources, store stuff, and to host meetings and exhibits, and concerts and workshops for artists, other groups, and local presenters.

ALL ARTS COUNCIL ACTIVITIES
The All Arts Council's three primary goals haven't changed: continuing our popular programs, continuing our support of artists and other presenters, and continuing our partnerships. The AAC may also host several one-time shows. Email the All Arts Council if you would like to suggest or host a show.
Summer Sounds, Franklin County's premiere outdoor concert series begins again in July with a lineup of bluegrass, classical, country, folk, jazz, pop, opera, and classic rock-n-roll. Assuming the Towns continue their support. The concerts are always on a Sunday night, always in a Town Park, always at 7 p.m. and always free.
AAC will hold exhibits for artists in all media and pays actual cash money for bands and solo performers. If you are one or know one, email the All Arts Council .
2012 AT THE OPERA HOUSE
The Opera House at Enosburg Falls also plans a mix of major productions, touring, and community events from the Highbrow to Hoedown, vocalists in concert, musicals, theatricals, to talent shows and art shows.

THE FIVE FESTIVALS
The 37th Franklin County Field Days swells Highgate with crafts, exhibits, agricultural exhibits, cattle judging, antique tractor pulls, rides, and more at the Franklin County Airport. This long running event fills a tent, the grounds, and the stage with popular bands and solo performers from near and far. Note the new dates: August 2-5, 2012. click here for more info.
Taken together, the five major Franklin County area Festivals have built almost 170 years of outdoor arts and entertainment here.
The 20th Annual Jig in the Valley will benefit the East Fairfield Community Center with a family day of music and picnicking on the last weekend in July. This concert helps raise funds and awareness for the NMC regional health center, pre-school, Head Start, Teen, and Senior Citizen programs.
The 2011 Lake Champlain Bluegrass Festival was cancelled but organizers expect to bring a full weekend of pickin' and grinnin' plus a craft fair, music workshops, a bonfire, barbeque, camping, and jamming, all for a 10th annual extravaganza weekend in August. click here for more info.
The 56th annual Vermont Dairy Festival will spotlight Franklin County performers in a benefit weekend for the Lions Club traditionally held on the first weekend of June. click here for more info.
The 46th annual Vermont Maple Festival in April is the first major outdoor festival of the year. St. Albans City and Town host three days of family education and entertainment. The Festival includes a popular talent show, the sold out fiddler's variety show, a large craft show, embraces many other community events, and offers the biggest parade in Vermont. April 27-29. TOWN BANDS
The Citizens Concert Band begins a new season outdoor concerts starting in June and alternating on Wednesdays between Swanton, St. Albans, and St. Albans Bay. Click here for more info.
The Enosburg Town Band performs Tuesdays in the Lincoln Park Bandstand, starting in June. Call Alisa Martin (802.933.2062) for info.
Evelyn Gant of Putnamville specializes in making and teaching Bobbin Lace. Her Fine Threads lace studio is dedicated to preserving the art of making lace by hand.
