The Summer of Music is officially busy! This weekend kicks it off with a baker's dozen concerts in 11 outdoor and indoor venues plus a musical in the Opera House.
Bay Day 2012 kicks off a day with lots more than fireworks in St. Albans Town Bay Park all day this Sunday. The 32nd rendition of the annual summer festival offers a full family day with the Great Race, lakefront games, sports, fair food, fireworks, and continuous live music, all to celebrate Independence Day. This familiar Franklin County family festival has new surprises every year. SUMMER SOUNDS
LIVE MUSIC ALL AFTERNOON--The All Arts Council and the Town of St. Albans will offer live music for Bay Day starting about 2 p.m. on the back stage at St. Albans Town Park at the Bay. The afternoon music lineup includes Neon Spoon plus Gary Dulabaum and Rik Barron, and some very special guests. These popular entertainers will mix it up with great country music, easy rock, and some family and kid friendly favorites.
"We always play a lot of favorites," said Neon Spoon's Jeff Blouin. Look for music from Golden Earring, Kiss, Marshall Tucker, Lynyrd Skynyrd, and more from Mr. Blouin, bass; Adam Blouin, lead guitar; Troy Baker, rhythm and lead guitar; and Dave Atchison, drums. 2:45 and 4:30 p.m. on the Bathhouse stage.
Gary Dulabaum is a nationally known performer, recording artist, author, and teacher from South Burlington. New Foundlander Rik Barron is an endorsed artist for Taylor Guitars and Deering banjos. Their concert together will include traditional and original American folk songs, sing-alongs, and fun on guitars, banjo and mandolin, and bass. 2, 3:30, and 5 p.m. on the Bathhouse stage.

The family events include the great race, volleyball and horseshoe tournaments, food and games for all ages, and more all starting at 1 p.m. The park opens at 8 a.m. Parking is $3 per car but the music is free.
SUMMER SOUNDS--The All Arts Council and the Town of St. Albans welcome a band that can rock the Bath House tent as Dark Horse does a double hat trick at each of the major festivals this year and opens the Summer Sounds season on Sunday at 7 p.m.
Dark Horse is a five-piece country band with two guitars, bass, drums, and keyboards for a mix of six string lead, double lead, rhythm, slide, and acoustic twelve string, keyboards and Hammond organs, grand pianos, and more. All five members sing lead and the band is unique in its complex, five part harmony.
This band has classically trained musicians with Berkeley School of Music graduate, six string legend and coach Bob Berger of Swanton, lead guitar and vocals; Bob Corbiere, bass and vocals; Dan Cox; rhythm guitar & vocals; Ron Hall, drums; George Seymour, steel guitar, fiddle, banjo, and vocals; and sound engineer Chris LaRocque.

The community based All Arts Council brings the performing arts to northwestern Vermont. The concerts are always on Sunday evenings at 7 p.m., always in a town park, and always free. Bring a blanket or a lawn chair as you settle in to enjoy outdoor family music and festivities.
The Bay Day-Summer Sounds social, presented by St. Albans Town Recreation, will be an all day event with the Bay Day food vendors starting to serve at about 2 p.m.
Fireworks will begin at dusk thanks to generous contributions from the community. The fireworks alone have a rain date, July 2.
SHELDON--Summer Music at Grace presents the Michele Fay Band to showcase their latest CD release, Endless Sky, on Friday at 7:30 p.m. ON STAGE LIVE
Playing a music mix built on traditional, swing, and bluegrass, the Vermont-based acoustic band offers the rich harmonies of Ms. Fay, acoustic guitar and banjo; Doug Reid, fiddle; Tim Price, mandolin, acoustic guitar and electric guitar; and Mike Santosusso, upright bass.
Sheldon United Methodist Church and Grace Church will host a strawberry shortcake fundraiser to benefit the Sheldon Food Shelf prior to and during the concert (as long as the shortcake lasts) starting at 6:30 p.m. at Grace Church.

ST. ALBANS--The City's new art and music hangout spot, Cosmic Bakery & Cafe presents Meg Cossaboom in Meg At Cosmic tomorrow evening at 6:30 p.m.
The musical evening will include everything from jazz standards to pop music anthems. "It's all about musical fusion," Ms. Cossaboom said.
ENOSBURG FALLS--The Opera House at Enosburg Falls presents a Summer Theater Camp production of Cinderella Kids for one show only tomorrow evening at 7 p.m.
The popular fairytale meets Disney magic in this adaptation of the animated film. Cinderella, mistreated by her wicked stepmother and stepsisters and denied the royal ball, gets little magic and a score including A Dream Is a Wish Your Heart Makes and the classic Bibbidi-Bobbidi-Boo.
Admission is $5 and free for those 5 and under. Tickets are available at the door.
SOUTH BURLINGTON and WHITE RIVER JUNCTION--Higher Ground and the Tupelo Music Hall present the 2012, 30th anniversary 8084 Reunion Tour for one show each this weekend. 8084 performs in South Burlington on Friday at 8 p.m. and in White River on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
The 2011 Reunion Tour for the international and Billboard award winning band originally from Franklin County sold out. 8084 is touring with original members, Grammy nominated guitarist/producer Andre Maquera, vocalist Randy Smith, bassist Frank Barnes, and drummer Gary Spaulding.
The Friday show also will include Keeghan Nolan as well as the Contois School of Music All-Stars. Admission to Higher Ground is $14-18. Click here for tickets.

ENOSBURG FALLS--New Life Christian Church begins its 2012 Christian Music Concert on the Park series with a Celebrate Hope Concert on the Lincoln Park at the Bandstand featuring Nashua's Tedd Fish on Saturday evening at 7 p.m.
Speaker, pastor, and concert artist Todd Fish offers a blend of gospel songs from the past and the present with a combination of life stories, music, humor, and a rich baritone voice.
A freewill love offering will be taken the night of the concert to help support Mr. Fish's ministry. In case of rain the concert will be moved to New Life Christian Church, 27 Cross Road in West Berkshire, Vermont.

ST. ALBANS--St. Paul's United Methodist Church presents Tim Zimmerman and the King's Brass on Sunday at 7 p.m. This popular brass ensemble presents hymn classics with a contemporary flair. The King's Brass blend three trumpets, three trombones, a tuba, percussion and keyboards to create an secular and sacred music for all generations.
This biennial visit also introduces the group's 14th CD, American Mood. The album features Big Band, gospel, jazz, and spiritual music.

FRANKLIN--The Old Bowling Alley Restaurant, Lake Carmi presents Missisquoi River Band with special guests Bill Gaston and Neil Rossi during the pontoon race on Lake Carmi on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
Bring a chair. Bring a date (pontoons are easier to spot than submarines). The road will close for the fireworks.

FAIRFAX--The Vermont National Guard presents Vermont's Own 40th Army Band in concert on the BFA Middle School Green on Tuesday at 7 p.m. This concert will feature the Liberty Bells, a woodwind quintet, the Green Mountain Show Band, a big band style ensemble, and the Power of 10, a power rock show band, playing as ensembles as well as in a combined concert.
Admission to the concert is free. Bring your blanket or lawn chairs.
BURLINGTON--Metronome presents Justice to end Burlington's 4th of July celebration with a bang on Tuesday at 9:30 p.m.
The band includes Gary Greeno, lead vocals; Scott Belisle on bass and backup vocals; Todd Dunn, lead and rhythm guitar; Mike Fredette, drums; and Scott Guptill, rhythm guitar and backup vocals. Special guests will include Rickey Bushey (Ambush), Joe Villamaire and Tom Dunn (Pleasure Dome), Patrick Ashton and more to come.
Tickets are $5 in advance and can be purchased from any of the band members.
ENOSBURG--The Vermont River Conservancy is raffling Jim Foote's painting, Fishing Below the Falls, to raise the final funds to purchase of seven acres in Enosburg Falls to be conserved as a River Access Park. ART ON THE WALLS
Tickets are $5. The drawing will be held July 10 at the Artists in Residence Gallery in Enosburg. To buy a ticket online, click here . The A. A. Brown Public Library Richford Summer Camp will have a series of musical guests (mostly) on Tuesdays at 10 a.m. This Tuesday, July 3, the vocal-harmony and multi-instrument duo, the Swing Peepers, will perform inventive, interactive songs and stories. FRANKLIN COUNTY BOOKSHELF
The Museum of Modern Art's "Art Lab" app, the pricey digital version of the museum's Materials Lab, allows kids to create and learn about art. The rest of us, too. POKE HERE: ART APP OF THE WEEK
The Materials Lab is a small space for children who want to stop looking at art and start making it. This digital version of that space is available for the iPad. There are richer drawing apps for the iPad but none include Exquisite Corpse which is more Surrealist than Zombie. (The museum also has a general app for Apple and Android devices with audio tours and images.)
