If you thought last week was busy, this week has music and art under every fallen leaf!
O.C. McCuin & Sons presents the Joe Levesque Big Band in the free Summer Sounds concert in Highgate Municipal Park on Sunday evening at 7 p.m. BIG, BIG BAND
My parents grew up to the most popular musical groups in America and introduced me to the King of Swing, Benny Goodman. His concert at Carnegie Hall was "the single most important jazz or popular music concert in history." His big band sold out all 2,760 seats weeks before the event at the top price of $2.75 per seat.
This modern big band invites dancing the evening away to standards from the Swing Era including In the Mood," "Take the A Train," "Don't Get Around Much Anymore," "It's Only A Paper Moon and many more. And it won't cost even $2.75 per seat, although you do need your own chair.
Like Benny Goodman, Louis Armstrong, Tommy Dorsey, and Harry James, Joe’s Big Band is a large ensemble with full woodwind, trumpet, trombone and rhythm sections. They have a regular gig on the Spirit of Ethan Allen and have just finished the Bristol Summer Cabaret Series.
Right before the concert, stop by for the MAHA-Summer Sounds Social in the Park starting at 6 p.m. The social hour is a chance to visit with friends and eat finger food and delicious desserts. "We’ll be prepared with a grill and lots of food!" Luc Choquette said.
The Summer Sounds concerts are sponsored by the Town of Highgate and the All Arts Council, and underwritten by Chevalier Drilling, Desorcie's Market, Drummac Septic Service, O. C. McCuin and Sons, Ray's Extrusion Dies and Tubing, and the Swanton Chamber.
The community based All Arts Council brings the performing arts to northwestern Vermont. The concerts are always on Sunday evenings, always at 7 p.m., always in Highgate Municipal Park, and always free. Bring a blanket or a lawn chair for the outdoor family music and festivities. The greatest American musical comes to the BFA Performing Arts Center as Saint Albans Society for the Performing Arts presents Gypsy in a four day run that starts this evening at 7 p.m. Performances continue on Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. with a matinee on Sunday at 2 p.m. STRIPPING DOWN BFA
With Stephen Sondheim lyrics, Jule Styne music, and a book by Arthur Laurents, Gypsy brings the 1957 memoirs of striptease artist Gypsy Rose Lee back to the burlesque stage with its focus on her ultimate show business mother, Rose. The cast includes Sarah Brooks as Rose, Ebby Rylant as Louise, Josh Curtis as Herbie, and Rachelle Chevalier as Dainty June. Anthony Modugno is Artistic Director and Meg Cossaboom Music Director with choreograph by Jen Corbiere. They even have a Kid Wrangler (Kathleen Hoffman).

COLCHESTER--CANCELLED DUE TO THREAT OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORM The Colchester Parks & Recreation Summer Concert Series is supercharged tonight as Carol Ann Jones and her All-Star band rock the stage tonight at the Lower Bayside Park (Beachside) at 6:30 p.m. This is the final event of Colchester's 2012 season.
SHELDON--Summer Music at Grace presents PossumHaw on Friday at 7:30 p.m.
The Burlington quintet plays original, authentic bluegrass and folk music. They are songwriters, story tellers, with exquisite harmonies and old-time arrangements. The brother band includes Colby Crehan, lead vocals, guitar, piano; Ryan Crehan, banjo, vocals, harmonica; Charley Eiseman, lead guitar, vocals; Pat Melvin, upright bass, vocals; and Steve Waud, mandolin, vocals.
They have released three albums Madtom, Split-rail, and Fortune's Name. They have appeared at the Champlain Valley Folk Festival, First Night Burlington, Higher Ground, the Long Trail Festival, and more; the SMAG concert is the second stop of their North Country tour. They will play the Fair Haven Concerts in the Park tonight, Grand Isle on Saturday, and Adirondack Folk Music Festival on Sunday.

ST. ALBANS--Downtown St. Albans Summer Concert Series presents the Nobby Reed Project playing on the green in Taylor Park tomorrow evening at 5:30 p.m.
The rain site is City Hall Auditorium.
GRAND ISLE--The Summer/Fall House Concert series starts Saturday with Possum Haw returning at 7 p.m.
House concerts offer the opportunity to see and hear performers up close in this case in a cozy, lakeside living and listening room. The show is exclusive, has limited-seating, and the chance to talk with the artists before, during and after the show.
