Desorcie's Market presents Mr. French in the free Summer Sounds concert in Highgate Municipal Park on Sunday evening at 7 p.m. FRENCH TWIST
Mr. French is an accomplished, 4 piece Burlington-based rock band known throughout New York and New England. Playing classic rock and dance standards from Led Zeppelin, Aerosmith, Cream, the Doors, Van Morrison, Beatles and many more of your favorites, Mr. French features Gary "Buddha" Norful, keys and vocals; Tim O'Brien, drums; Jimmy "Oxo" Carter, bass and vocals; and Jeff Wheel on guitar and vocals. They rock just a little rockier, funk a little funkier, and ballad a little ... smoother; Mr. French will have you dancing and singing until the end of summer.
Right before the concert, stop by for the Fire Department Auxiliary-Summer Sounds Social in the Park starting at 6 p.m. The social hour is a chance to visit with friends and eat finger food and delicious desserts.
The Summer Sounds concerts are sponsored by the Town of Highgate and the All Arts Council, and underwritten by Chevalier Drilling, Desorcie's Market, Drummac Septic Service, O. C. McCuin and Sons, Ray's Extrusion Dies and Tubing, and the Swanton Chamber.
The community based All Arts Council brings the performing arts to northwestern Vermont. The concerts are always on Sunday evenings, always at 7 p.m., always in Highgate Municipal Park, and always free. Bring a blanket or a lawn chair for the outdoor family music and festivities. The rain site is the Highgate United Methodist Church.

ST. ALBANS--The Village Frame Shoppe & Gallery hosts a Simply St. Albans Reception tomorrow evening at 6 p.m. The unique art exhibit celebrates St. Albans with a theme of the railroad city of Vermont. ART ON THE WALLS
Refreshments will be served. The exhibit continues through September 31.

BURLINGTON-- The Heineberg Community Center hosts the Burlington Songwriters Showcase tomorrow evening at 7 p.m.
Carol Ann Jones joins Queen City musicians Robin Reid, Gigi Weisman and Peter Bingham in a sound off at this community-center fundraiser and benefit. Admission is $5 at the door.
SHELDON--The Brooke Ostrander Memorial Jam & Benefit Concert will take place at the Abbey Casino/Pavilion (formerly known as the Sheldon Casino) on Saturday beginning at 3 p.m. The concert starts at 7 p.m.
The afternoon jam features past students of Mr. O's and other area musicians from Bob Berger and Eric Bushey to Scott Guptil and Jim Thacker. The evening will begin with a Dark Horse concert followed by Nashville recording artist Jay Taylor.
Dark Horse is a five-piece country band with two guitars, bass, drums, and keyboards for a mix of six string lead, double lead, rhythm, slide, and acoustic twelve string, keyboards and Hammond organs, grand pianos, and more. All five members -- Bob Berger, Bob Corbiere, Dan Cox, Ron Hall, and George Seymour -- sing lead and the band is unique in its complex, five part harmony.
Jay Taylor won the Florida Super Singer contest in Orlando, and has opened for country headliners including Diamond Rio, Lorrie Morgan, Montgomery Gentry, Little Big Town, Trace Adkins, Buddy Jewel, Trick Pony, Billy Dean, and Craig Morgan. Forrest Lee Jr., guitar, Trevor Layne, drums, and former Swanton resident Jim Thacker, bass, have traveled with him across the country as his Nashville band.
At press time, the afternoon jam lineup includes Reid Anderson, Eric Beauregard, Shawn Benjamin, Robert Berger, Eric Bushey, Jason Bushey, Nic Cannizaro, Craig Codrington, Robert Corbiere, Kris Cullen, Morgan Day, Wendy Fuller, Matt Fuller, Wendy Fuller, Matt Gadouas, Aaron Gagne, Jackson Garrow, Jason Garrow, Michelle Goodman, Scott Guptil, Trevor Jewitt, Forrest Lee Jr., Erik Kilburn, Andy King, Trevor Layne, John McDonald, Marbeth Nichols, Jordan Ostrander, Katy Ostrander, Pete Perry, Aaron Rembert, James Thacker, Mark Toof, Shawn Toussaint, and Sue Tremblay.
There will be a cash bar and BBQ by The Abbey Group.
The Ostrander Memorial Fund funds an annual scholarship awarded to a graduating senior or current college student majoring in the field of music.
Admission ranges from $10 to $150 or more but all tickets are the same. The higher priced tickets simply make larger donations possible. One ticket is good for both events.

SWANTON--The Swanton Chamber of Commerce presents the Nobby Reed Project in the Swanton Park Concert Series on the bandstand in the Village Green on Saturday at 6 p.m.
CALAIS--Young Tradition Vermont and the Vermont Folklife Center present the 14th Annual Calais Concert to honor Helen Hartness Flanders the songcatcher at the Old West Church on Sunday at 4 p.m. This event highlights the traditional music of New England.
Helen Hartness Flanders was one of the pioneers of folk music history in the United States. The Vermont native was internationally recognized as a ballad collector and authority on the folk music found in New England and in the British Isles. 4,500 of her field recordings are housed at the Flanders Ballad Collection at Middlebury College.
The Calais Concert will feature Young Tradition Vermont alumni including members of the Irregulars (Oliver Scanlon and Eileen O'Grady), Hannah Beth Crary, and the Zeichner Family. Singer Deb Flander's niece, Esther Nemethy, will perform along with Pete Sutherland and VSO cellist John Dunlop.
A portion of the evening's proceeds will benefit the Vermont Folk Life Center.
