The Vermont Maple Festival will help bring along the next generation of artists with two special activities, a photo contest and a music search, both new this year. HAS YOUR SAP STARTED RISING?
The Maple Festival is a tremendous showcase. It's our best opportunity to introduce Franklin County artists and entertainers to more than 50,000 attendees each year.
MAPLE SUGARING AMATEUR PHOTOGRAPHY CONTEST (April 23)--The Maple Festival seeks amateur Vermont photographers for a juried contest with a theme of Maple Sugaring. There are three categories: Product/Process, People, and Scenery. Entrants may submit up to three photos in each category for a total of nine. Entries have to be 8x10, color or B&W photographs that are flush mounted on mount board or mounted in a photo mat with an 8x10 opening. Do not frame your prints for this contest. Cash awards. No entry fee.

NEW BANDS RISING (February 28)--The Maple Festival seeks Vermont performers and bands for the Main Street stage. The All Arts Council, some of our country music celebrities, and the Maple Festival are all beating the bushes for talented, under-30 performers from this area. AAC particularly wants to showcase the younger, up-and-coming stars. If you haven't played Summer Sounds or any of the four other Franklin County Festivals, we want to know your name.
This call is open for self-nomination, suggestions from the neighbor down the street you serenade with the garage door open, or even your mother.

FRANKLIN COUNTY FILM--Jan-Ives Campbell needs a male actor for a 2-5 minute short film for his film making class. You will perform alongside Marla Cline. WIDE OPEN 4 (Early Bird Deadline February 25 or March 11)--Hurricane Sandy may have set the Brooklyn Waterfront Artists Coalition back a couple of months, but Wide Open 4 will open May 11 in a newly rebuilt gallery. The juried show explore this idea of 'wide open' in all the hidden niches of our collective psyche." Entries can be in all traditional and non-traditional 2D and 3D media, except film/video. Submit only original works in a .jpg file format; no slides, photographs or DVDs. CDs will be accepted for postal mail applications. Entry fee. Cash prizes. WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP BELT BUCKLE COMPETITION (March 7)--The second annual juried online exhibition and photographic exhibition invites all one of a kind, handmade buckles. ENOSBURG--The Enosburg Falls Music Department presents a Rock Show in the Enosburg Falls Auditorium tonight at 7:30 p.m. All performers are students in Franklin County schools. ON STAGE LIVE

SOUTH HERO--The Blue Paddle Bistro presents Carol Ann Jones in a solo show tonight at 6:30 p.m. The Bistro's Thursday Night Music series spotlights a line-up of Vermont musicians. Reservations are encouraged.

ST. ALBANS--Chow Bella's Comedy for a Cause features the St. Albans Historical Museum on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. The charity event series is a night of stand up comedy with several of Vermont's best comedians.
The Museum has been open since 1972 when donations from people county-wide underwrote the Saint Albans Historical Society efforts. The membership, friends and supporters of the Society, admission fees, gift shop earnings, and events like this one make sure it can keep the doors open.
Colin Ryan of A Stand Up Life produces the show. Admission is $15. There are just 70 tickets available at the restaurant.

RICHFORD--The AA Brown Public Library hosts Make It and Take It : Needlefelting, a free workshop on Saturday at 11 a.m. FRANKLIN COUNTY BOOKSHELF
Workshop leader Becky Wright says, Needle felting is a fun and easy fiber-art. The process interlocks wool fibers by stabbing them with a barbed needle to catch the scales on the fiber and cause them to tangle and bind together. Unlike traditional felting, it is done with dry wool. Participants will use wool roving, a felting needle, and punch board to create a shaped felted ornament or a gift tag.
Ms. Wright is a member of the Artist In Residence Co-operative Gallery in Enosburg. The workshop is free and aimed at adults, but older children or children with helpers are welcome, too.
ST. ALBANS--Humphrey Bogart Month continues at the St. Albans Free Library with To Have and Have Not, the 1944 film that brought Bogart and Bacall together
The library shows a newsreel, cartoon, and trailer of coming attractions before each weekly movie. All films are shown on the 4' by 6' screen in the upstairs conference room "cinema." Admission is free, along with popcorn and a beverage.
SWANTON--The Swanton Free Public Library Scrapbooking Workshops continue every other Thursday at 6 p.m.
The workshops are free; bring your own materials (pages, glue, etc.) and join the rest of a creative group.
