Ray's Extrusion Dies presents Towne Meeting in the free Summer Sounds concert in Highgate Municipal Park on Sunday evening at 7 p.m. TOWNE MEETING IN AUGUST THIS YEAR
Town Meeting blends strong harmonies and acoustic instruments in vintage and contemporary folk and folk-rock. And they drive a bright red 1976 Avanti, one of only 156 built that year, which is pretty cool. It has its original 400 cu. in. small block V-8 engine.
The group crosses generations in its selection of songs as well as membership with Dennis Hulbert, vocal and 12 string guitar; Miles Moody, vocals and 6 string guitar; Rich Sutphen, vocals, lead guitar, and mandolin; Gary VanCour, vocals, 6 string guitar and ukulele; and John Kains of Last Lyx, bass guitar. They are family and life long friends who have sung and played music together on and off for years.
They have three CDs out, Stillwater, released in 2008, A Christmas World from 2009, and Looking Back with its degree of nostalgia related to each tune.
Just before the concert, stop by for the Summer Sounds Social in the Park starting at 6 p.m. The social hour is a chance to visit with friends and eat some delicious desserts.
The Summer Sounds concerts are sponsored by the Town of Highgate and the All Arts Council, and underwritten by Desorcie's Market, Drummac Septic Service, O. C. McCuin and Sons, and Ray's Extrusion Dies and Tubing.
The community based All Arts Council brings the performing arts to northwestern Vermont. The concerts are always on Sunday evenings, always at 7 p.m., always in Highgate Municipal Park, and always free. Bring a blanket or a lawn chair for the outdoor family music and festivities. The rain site is the Highgate United Methodist Church.
Surprise Band Announced: Next Sunday, August 18, Summer Sounds will present the Rick Davis Band opening for Dick Prescott.

ST. ALBANS--The Northwestern Medical Center Gallery hosts landscape photographer David Juaire of Georgia this month. ART ON THE WALLS
Mr. Juaire is exhibiting his scenic photos from around the state in all six seasons. He has sold more than 40 photos to Vermont Life and twice that many wall calender images to the Co-Op. He started with 35mm, moved into medium format, and currently works in digital with a Nikon 12MP SLR. "They all work just fine," he said. "People take pictures, not cameras." email for more info.

ENOSBURG FALLS--The Artist In Residence Gallery has welcomed four new member artists/crafters at a recent jury session: Barry and Maureen Genzlinger of Milton, John Selmar of Westfield, and Cindy Weed of Enosburg.
"We are very pleased with the variety of quality of works presented at the jury," said president Toby Fulwiler.
Barry Genzlinger creates a line of tiny hand turned wooden spinning tops including finger tops, dancing tops, teething tops and game tops. Thanks to the small size of the tops, recycled materials work well; Mr. Genzlinger says he has fun "rummaging through the scrap bins of his woodworker friends" for pieces of cherry or maple. He also repurposes items, such as pepper mills and table legs, into tops.
For over 34 years Maureen Genzlinger has been creating colorful three-dimensional ornaments with wrapped crochet thread, silk ribbons, textured yarns, hand spun and hand dyed threads, including silk. She is also a member of the Vermont Hand Crafters, the Milton Artists Guild and the Vermont Artisan Crafts Gallery.
Photographer John Selmer of Westfield specializes in digital photography, digital printing, and photo restoration. The artist, now 74, started this career after he retired as a machinist and millwright. His work focuses on nature with flowers, barns, waterfalls, mountains, wildlife, and insects. He is also 7-year juried member of the Memphremagog Arts Collaborative in Newport.
Cindy Weed creates intricate wooden jewelry and accessories as Jewelwood of Vermont. She began this endeavor making softwood children toys at the Montgomery Schoolhouse in the early seventies and started making jewelry full time 25 years ago. She brings the natural beauty of hardwoods alive in earrings, barrettes, pins, necklaces, and an assortment of men's bolo ties, tie clip and tacks. Her work was featured in Fine Woodworking's Design Book #6.
The Artist in Residence art cooperative features paintings, fiber arts, stained glass, sculpture, lamps, pottery, folk art boxes, scarves, hats and more by 45 Franklin County and surrounding area artists. It is owned and operated by the artists and sponsors. The gallery, located at 321 Main Street, is open Wednesday-Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. plus the first Sunday of each month, noon to 5 p.m.
CAMBRIDGE--The 5th annual Cambridge Arts Council Festival of the Arts has more than 40 regional artists exhibit Fine Art amidst the food and music on Jeffersonville's Main Street on Saturday from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.
Music will be provided by the Green Mountain Swing Band and Eight 02. Smugglers’ Notch Resort will have a shuttle bus to bring their guests to the festival throughout the day.
The 18-piece Green Mountain Swing Band of central Vermont plays the music of the swing era of Glenn Miller, Benny Goodman, Duke Ellington, and more. They perform at dances, weddings, farmers' markets, crafts festivals, college reunions, and Lake Champlain cruises.
The Eight 02 quartet features keyboardist Peter Engisch and guitarist Jerome Monachino of Picture This, plus drummer Lucas Adler and saxophonist Christopher Peterman of Kilimanjaro. They describe their music as "post-bop contemporary jazz fusion."

WESTFORD--Marianfest, a musical benefit for the Westford food shelf, takes place on the Westford Common tomorrow starting at 4 p.m. The two-band concert opens with The Mumbles, a funk/soul trio from New Orleans. Blues legends The Nobby Reed Project play at 7:30 p.m. ON STAGE LIVE
Marianfest honors Marian Stark who started the original Westford Food Shelf in her garage. They ask for donations of one food item.
HIGHGATE FALLS--St. John's Episcopal Church presents the jazz group Calloway Taxi on Sunday at 4 p.m.
The Northwest Vermont a capella vocal group performs a variety of music ranging from big band standards and show music to contemporary jazz, rock and pop music.
The 19th century brick St. John's Church has a three-stop organ built by Henry Erben. The historical church is now used for weddings, Evensong services, and concerts in the summer.
Admission is by free will donation.

JOHNSON--Tuesday Night Live with Open Mic at Legion Field is celebrating its tenth consecutive summer on Tuesday 6 p.m. with free live and local music.
The weekly concert series runs through Tuesday, August 27.
FAIRFAX--Jay Craven's newest film, Northern Borders, concludes the Franklin County leg of its 100 Town Tour tomorrow evening at Fairfax Elementary School at 7:30 p.m. FILM
Based on the novel by Howard Frank Mosher, Northern Borders tells the story of 10-year old Austen Kittredge, who is sent to his grandparents' Kingdom County farm. It stars Bruce Dern, Genevieve Bujold, and Seamus Davey-Fitzpatrick.
Admission is by suggested donation of $12 for adults, $10 for seniors, $6 for students under 18, or a $25 family pack. Tickets are available only at the door. Click here for more info.
