Franklin County's arts and music gatherings bring new opportunities, gossip, "show-and-tell" and occasional workshops. There are also booked and acoustic Open Mic Nights that feature music, readings, and more from the best new artists in Vermont.

RANDOLPH--The Chandler Center features David J. Griggs' new photograph, Frosty Daybreak, in the new Art of Place juried exhibit. The show has paintings and photography, plus clay, fiber, installations, prints, and more. It opens with a reception on Saturday at 6 p.m. and continues through March 8. ART ON THE WALLS
Artists in this exhibit have examined the world around them to show us new ways of seeing the world. There will be a moderated artists' panel on Sunday at 11 a.m. New executive director Kurt Thoma will lead the discussion on how the sense of place informs these works including Sharon Stiller's thoughts on her painting Before the Beheading.

BOLTON--Bolton Valley Ski Resort will have "a mountain boogie like none other" when Justice goes Late Night on Friday at p.m. ON STAGE LIVE
With Scott Belisle on bass and backup vocals; Rodney Bushey, lead guitar and vocals; Gary Greeno, lead vocals; Mike Stella, drums; and Scott Guptill, rhythm guitar and backup vocals, Justice hammers a strong mix of 70s, 80s, 90s, and current dance rock. The Justice League can shred the slopes.
ST. ALBANS--J.W. Ryans presents the Nobby Reed Project on Saturday at 8 p.m. Vermont's best known New Year blues trio includes Eric Belrose, percussion, Ray Bushey, bass, and Mr. Reed on lead guitar and vocals.
ST. ALBANS--Twiggs presents Almost Nowhere on Saturday at 7 p.m.
The new two man spinoff from Close To Nowhere, Almost features Rich Furniss, lead vocals and rhythm guitar, and Mark Hagerstrom, lead guitar and vocals, performing 50/50 covers and originals from rock to folk to blues to funk.

SOUTH HERO--The Blue Paddle Bistro presents Carol Ann Jones in a solo show Tuesday evening at 6:30 p.m.

ALBURGH--Camera Club meets on Wednesday at 10 a.m. at the Alburgh Public Library. FRANKLIN COUNTY BOOKSHELF
BAKERSFIELD--The Bakersfield Library book discussion group meets this evening at 6 p.m. for The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck. The gritty, realist story of Tom Joad and his family forced from their Dust Bowl farm has an enduring legacy and currency.
Books are available at the library.
ENOSBURGH--The Enosburgh Public Library hosts Knit with Us twice a month for knitting, conversation, and lots of laughter. The knext knitting will be Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.
FAIRFIELD--Dominic Cicilio will teach a mini-technology series of two classes at Bent Northrop Memorial Library. Tonight, Google Applications at 6 p.m.
Google provides free apps such as Blogger, email, Hangouts, Google Wallet, Sites, Calendar, Forms, and Voice. Mr. Cicilio will cover all these and answer questions about using these resources.
ST. ALBANS--Today at the St. Albans Free Library starts with the Mornings, Muffins & Mysteries Book Group reading The Savage Garden by Mark Mills at 10:30 a.m. The Classic Readers Book Group gathers on Tuesday at 6:45 p.m. for Alice's Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll. Those interested in writing and sharing work with their peers take over for Writers' Medley on Wednesday at 2 p.m.
We wind up the preview of another busy year in the arts with a look at the Major Independent Presenters. We covered upcoming All Arts Council and Opera House events plus the Four Franklin County Festivals and Town Band plans last week. LOOKING FORWARD
2015 WITH OUR ARTISTS LOOKING FORWARD
The Artist in Residence Gallery spotlights different artists in month-long exhibitions starting with a free meet-the-artists reception (with refreshments) on the first Sunday of these winter months. 45 Franklin County and surrounding area artists are members of the co-operative gallery. The Northern Vermont Artist Association has the famous June Juried Show at the Visions Of Vermont Gallery in Jeffersonville, the fall show at the Red Mill Gallery in Jericho, and several other venues including an online gallery. Click here for more details.
The Northwestern Medical Center has a solo show for one area artist in the main exhibit space each month as well as occasional shows in individual hospital departments.
The Rotary Home Expo will have exhibits and featured artists all around the Collins Perley in March. Click here for more info.
The Village Frame Shoppe & Gallery will have artist visits, local and regional Fine Art exhibits, and more. They will have an art show with the Peace Corps in March, a maple themed show during the Maple Festival, the NVAA back late summer, and a regular exhibit of Vermont artists. Click here for more info.

2015 WITH OTHER PRESENTERS

The Art in Bloom Festival will bring a day of music, exhibits, and plenty of food to the former Swanson farm (the original location) in Fairfax on July 25. Call 802.849.6588 or email for more info.
Bay Day will celebrate on July 5 this year with continuous entertainment and family activities all day plus a Summer Sounds concert and fireworks to cap this Independence Day blowout.
This winter and Spring, the BFA Performing Arts Center will host at least two dance performances, a one act play and the Junior Jamboree, the Spring Band Concert, an Instrumental Concert, and the Spring Choral Review Concert, and a cabaret.
Island Arts has brought arts activities to Grand Isle County for over 30 years. Thanks to the generosity of Anne M. August, Island Arts has a home. Mrs. August's "Homer Knight barn" will host the Island Arts Academy and its programs, visual and performing arts, classes for children and adults, an office and meeting room. This year, they will have wide ranging concerts, theater performances, and craft fairs for children and adults including the Island Arts Academy, summer concerts, and more. The group needs Island Arts Academy Instructors with a "particular passion ... to share with others." Any activity/hobby from visual arts, music, dance, photography, to theater is fair game. click here for more info.
County-wide, our public Libraries have a slew of plans including readings, lunchtime concerts, art shows, and kids' performers. The Vermont Reads title for 2015 is Haroun and the Sea of Stories by Salman Rushdie.
The eclectic Music at Grace series at Grace Church in Sheldon will offer exceptional performers to Franklin County for several concerts this summer and fall including the 14th annual Farewell Reunion concert, a perennial favorite, which kicks off the series on May 23. Click here for more info.
Northwest Access TV and the St. Albans Recreation Department will offer more courses free of charge, movies in the parks, as well as concerts and arts programming.
Restaurants in and beyond Franklin County have our art on the walls and music in the halls. Twiggs will continue to feature artists and exceptional music several nights each week. The Abbey, Bayside, On Tap at the Lincoln Inn, One Federal, and Overstreet all have a regular roster of Franklin County musicians.
The St. Albans Historical Museum will have a lineup of performances, exhibits, and educational programs in the third-floor Bliss auditorium. Click here in the Spring for more info.
School art shows should include FNESU's annual Art Gala and the annual FCSU Art Show. The shows bring together hundreds of two and three dimensional pieces in schools and halls around the County.
Summer Evenings with Vermont Treasures, the Meeting House on the Green music series, starts in April with Will Patton and Carol Ann Jones, and includes six months of exceptional performers. Click here for more info.

The Vermont Youth Orchestra Young Artist Festival Winter Concert is less than 10 days away; next up, the showcases in February and March and then the Spring Concert series. VYO programs include three orchestras, three ensembles, and two choruses. They teach and showcase over 500 students of all levels of musical ability from Vermont, NY, and New Hampshire. click here for more info.
Young Tradition-Vermont has already held a reunion concert at FlynnSpace. Young Tradition and Fiddleheads have a lineup planned that includes a Celtic Gathering the Summit School Festival; Young Tradition Showcase in Contois Auditorium in February; the Burlington Irish Heritage Festival; Instrument Petting Zoos; Young Tradition Weekend; Trad Camp; and more. Several Fiddleheads Sessions will include master classes. The Young Tradition Weekend features players, singers and dancers from Franklin County and many other places and all the events, no matter where in Vermont, bring in performers we don't often get to see here.
