ALBANS--The Twiggs Open Mic and TNT Comedy Showcase continues on the Main Stage Thursday evening at 7 p.m. The Sweet-Tart Show (because February isn't always about love, romance, and the Super Bowl) has comedians Nicole Sisk, Mike Thomas and Bitsy Biron. Sign-up begins at 6:30, open mic is at 7, and the showcase is held at 8 p.m.
Next up, Twiggs presents Burlington songwriter and musician Erin Cassels-Brown on Friday and originals, Rock & Roll, and country covers by Cooie and Robin on Saturday. Shows begin at 7 p.m.

MORRISTOWN--River Arts presents the First Brew Haha on Friday at 5:30 p.m.
The evening will have comedy, improv, and beer tasting with Justin Lander and Rose Friedman from Modern Times Theater, creative improv with Johnson State College theater students, music by Lesley Grant, and stand up comedy. There will be local pizza from Pizza on Main and beers from Lost Nation Brewery and Ten Bends Beers available for purchase.

ST. ALBANS--Get your Remedy on at 14th Star on Friday at 6 p.m.
"14th Star makes great beer and the Remedy makes people dance ... the combination will be unstoppable." The Burlington dance, pop, hip-hop band has McKenna Lee of Rumble Doll, Andrew Manitsky, Uday Smith, and Mitch Terricciano.

RANDOLPH CENTER--Chandler Music Hall presents Cajun Night with Yankee Chank, a Cajun dinner-dance, on Friday at 6-10 p.m.
The immersion in Cajun music features Bob Naess, fiddle; Cannon Labrie, accordion; Jim Burns, guitar; Mark Sustic, bass; and June Drucker, drums; all specializing in traditional Cajun French two-steps and waltzes as it continues to be played in the rural dance halls and honky tonks of Louisiana, with some Zydeco thrown in for extra spice.

SOUTH BURLINGTON--The House of LeMay presents the 22nd annual Winter Is A Drag Ball in the Higher Ground Ballroom and the Showcase Lounge on Saturday at 8 p.m., doors at 7:30.
The evening will start with a cabaret show in the Ballroom followed by live performances and dancing throughout the night. Divas and Dudes will lip-sync along with dance music all night long in the Showcase Lounge. The event benefits the Vermont People With AIDS Coalition.

HIGHGATE--The fourth annual Pets Love & Fashion Show comes to MVU Trahan Theater on Sunday at 4 p.m. The benefit for MVUHS Performing Arts and the Franklin County Animal Rescue will cover the decades of the 1900s, plus modern wear, and a fantasy wardrobe. This year live pets will also parade at the show.

POLITICS AND ART
Immigrants to the United States created about one-fifth of the work in the Davis Museum's permanent galleries. Their collection includes work by Swedish portraitist Adolf Ulrik Wertmuller who emigrated to the United States in 1794, Willem de Kooning who came here from the Netherlands in 1926, Italian sound sculptor Harry Bertoia who moved to Detroit in 1930, Laszlo Moholy-Nagy who moved to Chicago to become the director of the New Bauhaus in 1937, and more.Art-Less, a special "no immigrant" exhibit, starts today at The Davis Museum at Wellesley College in Massachusetts. All work created or donated by immigrants will not be displayed until the President's Day weekend. Curators have removed paintings and shrouded cases with black cloth. The initiative highlights immigrants' impact on the world of art.
"We have removed or cloaked these works to demonstrate symbolically what the Davis Museum would look like without their contributions to our collections and to Wellesley College, and to thereby honor their many invaluable gifts," the museum told CNN.
Of course, that art was created by people who entered the country legally -- Walter Paepcke, the Chairman of the Container Corporation of America, invited Mr. Moholy-Nagy, for example -- so Wellesley's political statement is at best mixed.

GALLERY AT RIVER ARTS EXHIBITION (March 1)--Located in the Robert C. Folley Performance Hall of the River Arts Center in Morrisville, the Gallery is accepting submissions for an exhibition in 2017 and 2018. The shows include juried, high quality works of art in a wide variety of mediums and styles and run for about two months, with an opening reception and invitation to give an artist’s talk or lead a workshop in conjunction with the show. Submission Requirement include an artist's statement or proposal, CV, and images or video.
