EAST FAIRFIELD--Evenings with Vermont Treasures begins the 2017 season with the return of Michael Hurley to the Meeting House on the Green this year on Friday at 7 p.m. with food and drink at 6 p.m. This will be his only Vermont show this year. ONE SHOW ONLY
It will be a special evening of outsider folk, snockography, and plunking away as a solo artist with tunes new and old. The legendary troubadour is touring the northeast this month with stops in NYC, Northampton, East Fairfield, Montreal, and Toronto in no apparent order. He will show you his new opus, Se Fue en la Noche, and another scarfomaniac piece, Cook Fish, Bake Pie, and more.
The ten-show concert series offers some of Vermont's best musicians in a unique and intimate venue. "It sounds cliche, but it's true. We do offer something for every taste, from honky-tonk to jazz and everything in between," said organizer Tyrone Shaw. "People love this venue, musicians and concert-goers alike. It really is magical." Proceeds help fund the ongoing restoration of the Meeting House.

AROUND FRANKLIN COUNTY--Local libraries will host ART BOP, a presentation of artworks by local artists, with a reception on Saturday from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. Look for art on display, demonstrations by artists, and more at Fairfax, Franklin, Highgate, St. Albans, Sheldon, Swanton. ART ON THE WALLS
The King and the Captain will perform in Fairfax. Sheldon will have hands-on children's art programs. St. Albans will have a demonstration by artist and author Joy Choquette and an ongoing art display and food sale.

ST. ALBANS--St. Albans Community Arts reports that the Burrow has completed its building work. The lights are installed and decoration is proceeding. The official full opening will be the first week of May and they are soliciting performers. They still need a sound system. IN THE ARTS COUNCILS
The Burrow will be open for the art walk, and a video will be filmed for a gofundme campaign to raise money for the sound system.

SWANTON--The Swanton Arts Council wants to melt away the snow with lots of creativity at the Spring Meeting on Monday at 6 p.m. It's a chance to collaborate on upcoming happenings, learn about new art opportunities, and celebrate winter progress. Email for more info.
The Swanton Arts Council Writer's Group will meet at the Swanton Free Public Library this evening at 6 p.m. Members can share progress and join in the discussion about longer projects and anything else about writing, reading, publishing, and more. SOUTH HERO--The Blue Paddle Bistro presents Carol Ann Jones in a solo show tonight at 6:30 p.m. The Blue Paddle has limited seating and a small bar so call ahead (802.372.4814) to assure a seat.
ESSEX JUNCTION--On Tap offers Summer Sounds favorites Jenni Johnson and the Jazz Junketeers tonight at 7 p.m. Then, on Friday, the Justice Rebirth Tour
"It's our first time at On Tap in a little over a year," Gary Greeno said. "We know Essex hasn't forgotten about us and we haven't forgotten about you. Let's kick spring into high gear and get this party started."

ST. ALBANS--The Twiggs Open Mic and Spring Fever and April TNT Comedy Thursday hosted by Suzan Ambrose continues on the Main Stage Thursday evening at 7 p.m. Sign-up begins at 6:30, open mic is at 7, and the showcase is held at 8 p.m.
420! Collen Doyle (Winner of the SnowPlow Comedy Competion 2017) and Omega Jade, (Socially Irresponsible Sketch Comedy Troupe) and Sky Baumgardner Sandoval take the stage for the free show. Food and drinks provided by Twiggs.
Next up, Twiggs presents songwriter and musician Erin Cassels-Brown on Friday and Bardela, the force of nature trio of Jeff Barrows, Cooie DeFrancesco, and Arty LaVigne, on Saturday. Shows begin at 7 p.m.

ST. ALBANS--The Elks Club hosts Carol Ann Jones and Will Patton in a special performance for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society on Friday at 7 p.m.
"This concert wraps up their massive silent auction which is going on online right now," Ms. Jones said, "with live bids at the show until bidding ends Friday evening." Winners will be announced at the end of the show. Their goal is to raise $7,000. "There will be drinks available by the Elks Lodge but no food, so eat first then come to the show."
Admission is $10 at the door; it's a benefit for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
ENOSBURG--The Opera House at Enosburg Falls presents Melting Point 2.0, an evening of music by young, local artists, on Friday at 7 p.m.
Tuesday
BURLINGTON--Leunigs Bistro presents the Will Patton Trio on Tuesday evening at 7 p.m.
MORRISVILLE--The Art House presents American Masters' Maya Angelou: And Still I Rise in the River Arts Center on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. FILM
The film will be followed by a community conversation and refreshments. Admission is free.
ART ON THE REFUGE 2017 (Now)--The Friends of Missisquoi National Wildlife Refuge will host the annual art show during the Refuge Open House on May 20 to celebrate the 24th anniversary of International Migratory Bird Day. The 2017 theme is "Helping Birds Along the Way." Paintings and drawings do not need to be created on the Refuge but need to represent the bird population onsite. Photographs must have been taken on the Refuge, or from the river or lake adjacent to the Refuge. The hanging fee remains $15, which includes a year's Friends of the Refuge membership to the artist or assignee. Click here for more info and to apply. APRIL-MAY ART DEADLINES
EN PLEIN AIR PAINTING FESTIVAL (now-October 1)--The third annual Vermont Institute of Natural Science festival and competition, scheduled for September 30 - October 6, is accepting registrations now. The event is an opportunity to paint and celebrate the beauty and diversity of the Ottauquechee River and the Connecticut River watershed ecosystem. INVITATION TO FILMMAKERS (May 26)--The Center For Independent Documentary wants independent filmmakers to participate in a week long seminar and retreat in Guilford in July. The CID and the Kopkind Center sponsor this week-long retreat limited to nine filmmakers along with special invited guests. To apply, write a letter that tells your story and what you are working on that you might want to "workshop" that week (plan to screen 20-30 minutes of either a work in progress or completed piece).
