     Franklin County's arts and music gatherings bring new opportunities, gossip, "show-and-tell" and occasional workshops. There are also booked and acoustic Open Mic Nights that feature music, readings, and more from the best new artists in Vermont.

ART ON THE WALLS

ST ALBANS--The Northwestern Medical Center Gallery hosts Donna Blatchly. A member of A.I.R., the Milton Artist's Guild, and Vermont Hand Crafters, Ms. Blatchly is exhibiting 3D pebble art with pebbles, stones, beach glass, twigs, and driftwood. The simple, powerful imagery "has a different impact" on each observer, she said. She also designs hand knit and felted purses, bowls, gift card holders, and bangle bracelets.
      The show continues through June 23.


IN THE SAC

SWANTON--The Swanton Arts Council Barn Quilt Challenge continues through the month of June. Led by Kris Daignault, the exhibit has any size or style of painted artwork hanging, leaning, standing, or posted on the exterior of houses, barns, fences, restaurants, or factories.
      The SAC Writer's Group will meet at the Swanton Public Library this evening at 6 p.m. Call organizer Becky Rupp (802.733.7471) for more info.

IN THE HOUSE

ENOSBURG--It is Movie Night at the Opera House with a special screening of Mamma Mia this evening, Thursday, at 7 p.m.
      Admission is free.


      The Opera House at Enosburg Falls hosts Theater Camp #1 at the House next week from June 19-23 at 9 a.m.-2 p.m.
      Open to ages 10-15 years, the students will experience all aspects of putting on a theatrical production including improv, blocking, character development, set building, costumes, makeup, and more. The week culminates with a performance of the one-act play, After Math, on June 23.

ESSEX JUNCTION--On Tap offers Summer Sounds favorites Jenni Johnson and the Jazz Junketeers tonight at 7 p.m.

Thursday-Saturday
ST. ALBANS--The (Finally) Summer Show! and TNT Comedy Showcase continues on the Main Stage at Twiggs on TNT Comedy Thursday at 7 p.m. Doors at 6:30.
      Listen for Boston's own Pamela Ross and Vermont's Funniest Comedian 2015, Kendall Farrell, hosted by local stand-up laugh guy, Joel Klein. Suzan Ambrose hosts open mic. This is a free show for mature audiences and space has been filling up quickly; call Twiggs to reserve a table. Make dinner reservations prior to the show since only drinks, appetizers, and desserts will be served during the show.
      Next up, Twiggs presents Burlington songwriter and honky tonk/folkie musician Erin Cassels-Brown this evening; the home grown, rootsy, new fusion of the Donna Thunder Trio on Friday; and the Americana and blues of Crone & Bodega on Saturday. Shows begin at 7 p.m.

Friday
MILTON--Carol Ann Jones and Will Patton Rock the Tent at Arrowhead Golf Course on Friday at 6:30 p.m. The course will have Live Music on the Deck and a $10 buffet every Friday night this summer.


Saturday
WORCESTER--The Carolan Festival presents Fiddleheads with Dominique Dodge at the Mallery Farm on Saturday at 1 p.m.
      Ms. Dodge is a harper and singer from northern New Hampshire who now lives in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia and Vermont. She has performed at Denmark's Tonder Festival, the Celtic Connections Festival in Glasgow, the Edinburgh Harp Festival, and the Edinburgh Fiddle Festival, as well as for HRH the Prince of Wales and at the opening of the Scottish Parliament Building. In the US, she has been the featured harper at the New Hampshire Highland Games.

ST. ALBANS--14th Star Brewing brings Summer Sounds favorites IncaHoots back to the stage for dancing and more on Saturday at 6 p.m.
      The four-piece country-rock-jazz-pop band is the hottest band in Franklin County this year. John Geno, Jeff Wenig, David Long, and Kevin Connelly play music "for all occasions."


ALBURGH--The Nobby Reed Project will help the 8th grade raise funds for the 2018 class trip to Maine with a benefit BBQ and concert at American Legion Post 60 on Saturday. The BBQ starts at 5 p.m. and the music rocks the hall at 7 p.m.
      Tickets for the music are $10.


STOWE--The Carol Ann Jones Quartet returns to Spruce Peak Arts on Saturday at 8 p.m.
      The concert will move your soul with Ms. Jones' original songs as well as popular favorites from country, Americana, folk, bluegrass, rock and rockabilly. The Quartet includes Ms. Jones, vocals and acoustic guitar; Will Patton, multiple stringed instruments and vocals; Dono Schabner, guitars and backing vocals; and Gary Spaulding, percussion.

Wednesday
SHELDON--The Sheldon Historical Society will host a special "Tea Party" with music by harpist Katherine Dandurand at the home of Albert and Sally Severy on Wednesday beginning at 3 p.m.
      After English Tea and locally prepared pasty tour this historic 1810 home as well as the historic Grace Church next door. Wear your best hat and win a prize.

ST. ALBANS BAY--The Starline Rhythm Boys are back at Bayside every Wednesday at 6 - 9 p.m.

CALL FOR THESPIANS

SWANTON--Want to be a star? Swanton Arts Council will hold additional auditions for the 2017 Northwest Nightmares Film Festival entry in the Swanton Village Complex on Monday from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. SAC anticipates filming to be done in July or August.

FRANKLIN COUNTY BOOKSHELF

ST. ALBANS--The Eloquent Page hosts Vermont writer Bill Schubart to read and discuss his newest novel, Lila and Theron, on Friday at 6 p.m. The store has a few copies of Bill reading some of his Lamoille Stories on CD "and we'll be giving some away," Donna Howard said. "Join us for a wonderful evening and support local authors."
      Mr. Schubart has lived with his family in Vermont since 1947. He writes about Vermont in fiction, humor, and opinion pieces.


ST. ALBANS--The St. Albans Public Library 2017 Adult Summer Reading Challenge starts in just 10 days, running Monday, June 26 through August 14. There are three "Building Block" choices, Library Hodge Podge, Library Techie, and Old School Reader. The circulation desk has building blocks for all and suggests a challenge to do all three.
      Mornings, Muffins & Mysteries meets for The Daughter of Time by Josephine Tey this morning at 10:30 a.m. While at a London hospital recuperating from a fall, Inspector Alan Grant becomes fascinated by a portrait of King Richard of British history accused of murdering his young nephews.
      The Classic Readers Book Group reads Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck on Tuesday at 6:45 p.m. A limited number of books are available at the circulation desk. New members are always welcome.
