ART FOR THE WALLS

ST. ALBANS--The Grind Cafe hosts a Family Paint and Sip on Saturday at 10:30 a.m.
      All ages are welcome to celebrate Thanksgiving by painting a Thanksgiving centerpiece on canvas while enjoying a nice warm cup of hot chocolate, hot caramel apple cider, maple macchiato and more. $20 per person includes all supplies, one non-alcoholic drink, and a fresh in-house-made cookie.


IN THE ARTS COUNCILS

ST. ALBANS--Mark your calendars: the ninth annual Festival of Trees begins next Saturday, November 25, with the Tree Lighting and Fireworks and continues through December 3.

SWANTON--The Swanton Arts Council Writer's Group will meet at the Swanton Free Public Library this evening at 6 p.m. Members can share progress and join in the discussion about longer projects and anything else about writing, reading, publishing, and more.

Thursday
ST. ALBANS--Cooie sings live in Durty Nelly's Irish Pub early on Thursday at 6 - 7:30 p.m.
      Cooie de Francesco bring the lyrics of traditional tunes, popular songs, and originals to life.


SOUTH HERO--The Blue Paddle Bistro presents Carol Ann Jones in a solo show tonight at 6:30 p.m.
      The show will be inside; the Blue Paddle has limited seating and a small bar so do call ahead (802.372.4814) to assure a seat.


ESSEX JUNCTION--On Tap offers Summer Sounds favorites Jenni Johnson and the Jazz Junketeers tonight at 7 p.m.
      On Tap has music on Tuesday through Saturday nights. Call 802.878.3309 or email for more info.


Thursday-Saturday
ST. ALBANS--The Dark Side of the Moon and TNT Comedy Showcase continues on the Main Stage at Twiggs on TNT Comedy Thursday at 7 p.m. Doors at 6:30. Headlined by King Sha-mecca Blaze plus Taylor Rad and hosted by comedian Carl Sonnefeld. "Yes, I do love Pink Floyd," Suzan Ambrose said. "Come out Thursday to see how much." Ms. Ambrose hosts the open mic for first timers and seasoned veterans.
      This is a free show for mature audiences and space has been filling up quickly; call Twiggs to reserve a table. Make dinner reservations prior to the show since only drinks, appetizers, and desserts will be served during the show.
      Next up, Twiggs presents the Growlers, rock, blues, and drunken country just like mama used to make, on Friday and songwriter Stefani Capizzi on Saturday. Shows begin at 7 p.m.

Friday-Saturday
MARATHON FL--The Hurricane is back with Summer Sounds favorites, the Christopher Dean Band, with some very special guests on Friday and Saturday evenings starting about 8 p.m.
      The national touring blues/soul band has its roots in Central New Jersey and works up and down the east coast year round.


Saturday
ST. ALBANS--The Bellows Free Academy Theater Company presents the rocking musical revival of Godspell in the BFA Performing Arts Center this evening, tomorrow, and Saturday. Showtime is 7 p.m. This evening's show will be ASL interpreted.
      The Stephen Schwartz/John-Michael Tebelak jazz-rock retelling of Jesus and his disciples opened off Broadway in 1971. The musical uses a series of parables interwoven with modern music and lyrics from traditional hymns. The passion of Christ is treated briefly at the end of the performance. It is a show for kids and parents alike.
      General admission is $8 or $6 for students and seniors. Tickets are available at the Main Office (802.527.6409) or online at bfastalbans.ticketleap.com.


Wednesday
ST. ALBANS--The Owl Stars with Troy Millette get thankful at 14th Star Brewing Co. on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.
      The full Americana band "is pulling out all the stops for this barn burner" with the sweet country rock sounds plus a set by favorite Troy Millette.


ST. ALBANS--Durty Nelly's Irish Pub hosts Open Mic Night with Molly Renning on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. Show off your talent; everyone and anyone is welcome to grab the mic and perform on Wednesday evenings in the Tavern.
      Stick around to celebrate Thanksgiving Eve at Nelly's with Chris and Erica opening at 7:30 p.m., then Barbie N Bones live in the Tavern starting at 9:30.


SHELDON--The Abbey hosts a Thanksgiving Eve party with live music by Shake My Nerves on Wednesday beginning at 9 p.m.
      There will be drink specials and giveaways all night.


TECHNO ART

BURLINGTON--The Vermont Humanities Council Fall Conference 2017, The Double-Edged Sword of Technology, takes place at the University of Vermont on Friday and Saturday.
      There will be three plenary lectures and from 14 breakout sessions to choose from. The plenary speakers are Robert J. Gordon, the Stanley G. Harris Professor in the Social Sciences and Professor of Economics at Northwestern University; journalist Virginia Heffernan, critic, author, and contributing editor at Politico; Amy Hungerford, the Bird White Housum Professor of English, Professor of American Studies, and Dean of Humanities at Yale; and Joel Mokyr, the Robert H. Strotz Professor of Arts and Sciences and Professor of Economics and History at Northwestern University and Sackler Professor at the Eitan Berglas School of Economics at the University of Tel Aviv.

FRANKLIN COUNTY BOOKSHELF

SWANTON--Local Authors Fest takes over the Swanton Free Public Library on Saturday at 10 a.m. - 12 noon.
      Each writer will have a table and there will be "some scrumptious literary snacks" plus a chance to chat with people, check out their work, and buy books.
