     Franklin County's arts and music gatherings bring new opportunities, gossip, "show-and-tell" and occasional workshops. There are also booked and acoustic Open Mic Nights that feature music, readings, and more from the best new artists in Vermont.

WINTERFEST

JEFFERSONVILLE--The Cambridge area Rotary presents Winterfest all day on Saturday. The town-wide event offers Cambridge Arts Council entertainment including Cirque de Fuego fire dancers and music for skating. Most activities take place at Cambridge Elementary School, the Cambridge Community Center, the Varnum Library, Smuggs, and more. There will also be hot cider stories, skating, skiing, Glogg, and fireworks.
      Monica Hawkes of Cambridge Arts Council put in a good word for "one of my favorite things -- Pie for Breakfast." It's $5 for all you can eat and bottomless coffee.

DIY ART

ST. ALBANS--Durty Nelly's Irish Pub and Franklin County Animal Rescue host Paint Your Pet at Nelly's this evening at 6 p.m.
      The cost is $35 plus a suggested $10 donation to the Franklin County Animal Rescue. That includes the canvas, paint, a pre-sketched pet drawing that will serve as the basis of the painting, and guidance by Sandy from Dragon Fly Paint. Click here for tickets.

VOICING IT (January 27)--St. Albans Recreation presents a Voice-Over Workshop held by Brian Thon in the Barlow Street Community Center on Saturday at 9-11am.
      Mr. Thon is a working voice-over artist and instructor in Richmond. His voice is heard for Amazon, Apple, Discovery Channel, GE Healthcare, Fox News, the Stowe Country Club, and more. He heads digital media production company True Tone Studios and is a coach at Such a Voice.

FESTIVAL OF THE ARTS (now)--The Cambridge Arts Council tenth annual Festival of the Arts features fine art, food, music, and children's activities. It will be held in Jeffersonville, August 11. The booth fee for this year is $40 or $25 for students. Call Monica at (802.644.1418) for more info and click here to register.


ON STAGE LIVE

Thursday-Sunday
MONTPELIER--The Spice on Snow Festival features the April Verch Band, Patti Casey, Jon Gailmor, Green Mountain Playboys, Young Tradition Touring Group, and more, city-wide in Montpelier today through Sunday. Young Tradition Vermont is in concert with April Verch and Scott Ainslie on the Main Stage in Bethany Church on Saturday at 7 p.m.
      The four-day celebration of roots and contemporary folk music features Cajun musicians from Louisiana and spicy Cajun food, together with other premier touring folk musicians and local performers. There are concerts, dances, workshops, family events, and free performances city-wide.

ST. ALBANS--FCRCC presents the In Good Taste food festival with live music by Carol Ann Jones and Jon Sochin in St. Albans City Hall on Friday from 4:30 - 9 p.m.
      Franklin County's tasting event offers sample creative cuisine, fine wine, handcrafted beer and unique spirits during two tasting sessions. Choose either 4:30 - 6:30 p.m. or 7 - 9 p.m.
      Admission is $12 in advance or $18 at the door and anyone under 16 is free. Admission includes 20 tasting tickets per person. Click here for tickets.


SOUTH BURLINGTON--Higher Ground presents the Ghost Of Paul Revere plus a set by Summer Sounds favorite Troy Millette in the Showcase Lounge on Friday at 8 p.m. Doors at 7:30 p.m.
      The Ghost grew up in Portland, Maine, listening to Radiohead and the Beatles and Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd and plays holler folk. Admission is $10 advance or $12 day of show. Click here for tickets and more info.

ST. ALBANS--Twiggs presents bluesman Arthur James on Friday and the ancestral roots music of Vermont's O'hAnleigh on Saturday. Shows begin at 7 p.m.

ST. ALBANS--14th Star Brewing presents Shake the Band on the Taproom Stage on Saturday at 6 p.m.


Sunday
BURLINGTON--Dance with the Vermont Youth Orchestra as the Flynn Theater hosts the VYO Winter Concert, Tchaikovsky in Vermont, on Sunday at 3 p.m.
      Senior soloist, tubist Malachi Witt performs the third movement of Edward Gregson's Tuba Concerto. This is the VYO's second installment of Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 5 in E minor, Op. 64. Other works include two dance favorites: Strauss' Blue Danube and Arturo Márquez's Danzon No. 2.
      VYO programs include three orchestras, three ensembles, and two choruses. They teach and showcase over 500 students of all levels of musical ability from Vermont, NY, and New Hampshire including several from Franklin County.
      Admission is $17 for adults and $12 for students. Click here for tickets and more info.
