     Franklin County's arts and music gatherings bring new opportunities, gossip, "show-and-tell" and occasional workshops. There are also booked and acoustic Open Mic Nights that feature music, readings, and more from the best new artists in Vermont.

ART FOR THE WALLS

ST. ALBANS--The Grind Cafe continues How to Draw Portraits at the Cafe on Wednesdays at 11 a.m. Each lesson will be adjusted for any age group and skill level. The class will host an art show during week 6. This week's topic is drawing cartoons. Future lessons will cover portraits, comics and an artist study of Georgia O'Keefe.
      The cost is $10 per week or $55 for all six lessons which includes supplies. Visit them on Facebook to reserve a spot.


CAMPING IN

MONTGOMERY CENTER--The Montgomery Center for the Arts Art and Recreation Camp takes over Kelton Hall on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday next week, from 9 a.m. - noon.
      There will be a drawing class, photography workshop, needlefelting, snowshoeing, and board games for students in 5th - 12th grades. Admission is free but donations are appreciated.


ON STAGE LIVE

Thursday
SHELDON--The Abbey has Thursday Karaoke Promos in the Pub on Thursday evening.
      They will celebrate Spring every Thursday with Karaoke to win some swag.


Friday-Saturday
ST. ALBANS--Burlington Songwriters Group Sessions will be held at Twiggs on Thursday (this evening) from 7 - 9:30 p.m. Next up, Twiggs presents acoustic trio AmerikanaBlue on Friday and vibrant singer/songwriter and Summer Sounds favorite Mark LeGrand on Saturday. Shows begin at 7 p.m.

ST. ALBANS--Funky Stuff jams live at 14th Star Brewing Company on Friday at 6 p.m.
      The quintet is Gyasi Garcia, keys and vocals; James Woods, bass; Dalton Muzzy, drums; Sean Ralphio, vocals and guitar; and Dylan Berno, guitar.


RANDOLPH--Chandler Music Hall presents Tom Rush on Friday at 7:30 p.m. The folk legend is a New Hampshire native who has been thrilling audiences worldwide for more than 50 years.

Saturday
GREENSBORO--The Highland Center for the Arts presents the Young Tradition Touring Group with special guest Andrea Beaton in concert on Saturday at 7 p.m.
      The concert will feature artist leaders, youth leaders and members of the 2017/2018 Touring Group. The group includes of teen players, singers and dancers who focus on learning and performing traditional music and dance repertoire over the course of nine months as well as an April performance tour. They will visit Scotland this year. The 24 members learn from and are supported by group manager Mark Sustic, artist leaders Pete Sutherland, Dominque Dodge, and Ms. Beaton, and youth leaders Rose Jackson and Oliver Scanlon, in addition to exchanges with young performers and organizations while on the performance tour.
      Proceeds from this performance will support the group's trip to visit Scotland. Admission is by $20 suggested donation.

ST. ALBANS--Durty Nelly's Irish Pub hosts Mardi Gras Justice Style on Saturday at 9 p.m.
      The Justified bash starts 2018 in the Railroad City for Mardi Gras. Beads galore, the music of Justice, and the party. $5 cover. Doors open at 9 p.m.


Sunday
BURLINGTON--Bluegrass Brunch at the Skinny Pancake features live music with Chasing 440 on Sunday from noon - 3 p.m.
      The band "looks forward to kicking off our 2018 season with the return of Harley Poquette on his 5-string banjo and our newest addition, Kim Provost, on bass and vocals." They play good music and have a good time.

INDUCTED

     The International Elvis Tribute Artist Association has announced its two inaugural inductees for the 2018 International ETA Hall of Fame. From Vermont, this year's inductee is Summer Sounds favorite Mark Shelton.
      Mr. Shelton the his co-inductee, Doug Church, will receive their awards during Elvis Week in August in Memphis. There will also be regional concerts and events by the two artists honored for a lifetime of excellence performing as the King of Rock and Roll.

     The National Endowment for the Arts short video looks at the arts and culture of Vermont. The state videos are part of the NEA's Tell Us Your Art Story series that celebrates the 50th anniversary of the United States of Arts.
