     Franklin County's arts and music gatherings bring new opportunities, gossip, "show-and-tell" and occasional workshops. There are also booked and acoustic Open Mic Nights that feature music, readings, and more from the best new artists in Vermont.

ESSEX JUNCTION--The Green Mountain Film Festival celebrates 22 years of screenings with New Music at the Movies at the Double E and Essex Cinemas on Friday at 7 p.m.
      In the collaboration with the Montpelier Chamber Orchestra and Music-COMP (Music Composition Mentoring Program), Composers Erik Nielson and Matt LaRocca have been working with local students to compose original music for silent films that will be performed in the T Rex Theater at Essex Cinemas. The program includes Music for Movies by Aaron Copland and the world premiere of the three new scores. Metropolis (1927) by Drew Frankenberg, La Glu (1907) by Anna Halladay, and The Adventures of Prince Achmed (1926) by Vermont composer Erik Nielsen.
      The 2019 Festival schedule includes showings Friday, Saturday, and Sunday in the Essex Cinemas, more Music at the Movies at the Vermont College of Fine Arts on Saturday, and additional screenings at the Savoy Theater in Montpelier next weekend. click here for more info, the Festival schedule, and tickets to the Montpelier showings.
      Central Vermont's Focus on Film holds the annual Green Mountain Film Festival to bring diverse, international, and important films to the local community. They facilitate understanding through discussion and dialogue and support an examination of media by considering its history, context, and modes of creation.

ART ON THE WALLS

SWANTON--The Swanton Arts Council presents the fourth annual Spring Youth Art Show in the Swanton Village Complex with an Opening Reception Friday evening at 5 p.m. The show ill be open Friday from 5 - 8 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.
      The SAC will host announce the Emerging Artist Award recipient at the Opening Reception Friday evening.
      The show exhibits the artistic talent of area youth. It includes work from the K-12 and post grad students at Swanton, Highgate, Sheldon, Franklin, Alburgh, and MVU as well as the finalists for the Emerging Artist Scholarship.

ST. ALBANS--Twiggs hosts Paint Nite: Luna Lit River on Tuesday at 7 p.m. Snow postponed this show last month.

SWANTON--The Swanton Arts Council Writer's Group will meet at the Swanton Free Public Library this evening at 6 p.m. Members can share progress and join in the discussion about longer projects and anything else about writing, reading, publishing, and more.

SWANTON--The SAC will hold a Spectacular Planning Meeting at the Swanton Free Public Library on Monday at 6 p.m.
      Project lead Darci Benoit will get the ball rolling for the 2019 Swanton Arts Spectacular. All are welcome to join in the fun of planning this community artisan event.

SOUTH HERO--The Blue Paddle Bistro presents Carol Ann Jones in a solo singer-songwriter performance in the main dining room on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. Ms. Jones will appear the third Thursday of each month.

ESSEX JUNCTION--On Tap offers Summer Sounds favorites Jenni Johnson and the Jazz Junketeers tonight at 7 p.m.

ENOSBURG--EFHS presents the 14th annual Rock Show at the high school on Friday at 7 p.m.
      "Get ready to have your face melted off by rock music!" Talented students and teachers perform at this year's EFHS Rock Show. The Rock Show is the Music Department's largest fundraiser of the year. The Show this year will feature individual performers, the Teacher Band, an as-yet-unnamed band from both BFA-Fairfax and Milton HS and an as yet unrevealed artist performing the world premiere of a new work.
      "This is a fantastic show every year. Come out and Rock," Andrew Frappier said.
      Admission is $5 in advance or $10 at the door. Additional donation are always accepted. All proceeds go to support the EFHS Music Department. Tickets are available from Mr. Frappier, Rachael Sherman, the EFHS Front Office, and from The Flying Disc in downtown Enosburg Falls.


SHELDON--The Abbey continues the Spring Music in the Pub series on Friday at 7 p.m. This week, Sean Jarvis appears with new original music. The series continues through April 26.

ST. ALBANS--Twiggs presents acoustic rock, country, and pop duet Chris & Erica on Friday and singer-songwriter Ali T ("a less-neurotic Alanis Morissette") on Saturday. Shows begin at 7 p.m.

SOUTH BURLINGTON--Higher Ground presents the Music of the Rolling Stones for Kids on Saturday at 11:30 a.m. Doors at 11.
      The Rock and Roll Playhouse is a family concert series for kids to "move, play and sing while listening to works from the classic-rock canon." The Playhouse bills itself as "an early and often first introduction to a child's lifelong journey with live music and rock and roll." Admission is $15 and children under 1 are admitted free. EAST BURKE--The Burke Mountain Lodge presents the Nobby Reed Project on Saturday at 4 p.m.
      Vermont's own blues trio includes Eric Belrose, percussion, Ray Bushey, bass, and Mr. Reed on lead guitar and vocals.


ST. ALBANS--14th Star Brewing Company presents NightHawk live on the taproom stage on Saturday at 6 p.m.
      With Kyra Maddix, vocals; Ray Parent, guitars and vocals; Pete Lawrence, drums and vocals; and Michael Maddix, bass and vocals; NightHawk is a "dance band with something for everyone."


ENOSBURG--We're all still Irish! The Opera House at Enosburg Falls hosts a St. Patrick's Celebration with Prydein on Saturday at 7 p.m. The kilts are back in the House. The American Celtic rock band focuses on "the preservation of Scottish and Irish tunes while totally screwing around with the delivery."
      Admission is $10.


Sunday
KEY COLONY BEACH, FL-- continues the KCB Community Association's 4 Sheets to the Wind concert in the Park series in Sunset Park on Sunday at 4 p.m.
      Concerts in the Park are free concerts sponsored by the KCBCA and take place most Sunday afternoons in Sunset Park. Bring a chair or blanket and refreshments. Parking is limited so walking, biking or ride sharing is recommended.


MARCH-APRIL ART DEADLINES

TAP TO TABLE (March 25)--The Sappy Art Show returns to The Village Frame Shoppe during the 53rd Vermont Maple Festival and the deadline has been extended. All maple-themed visual media is welcome, including paintings, photographs and sculptures. Please limit submissions to one per artist. Works will be on display for about a month, and they can be for sale. Click here for more info.


ANN WHITFORD PAUL/WRITER’S DIGEST AWARD (April 1)--The award for picture books under 1,000 words only is given annually to a Most Promising Picture Book manuscript. It is open to any Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators picture book writers who are not under contract and/or have not sold a picture book manuscript in the last three years. 2019 WERGLE FLOMP HUMOR POETRY CONTEST (April 1)--Winning Writers seeks one humor poem, in English, from each writer. Poems should not exceed 250 lines in length and may be published or unpublished work. No entry fee. Click here for more info.


ART PAGE OF THE WEEK
