The schedule is a little unusual because he All Arts Council traditional kick off concert at Bay Day has been postponed until Labor Day. It turns out the series will skip a couple of weekends this summer after opening on Sunday, July 10. The AAC opted to skip July 31. That weekend, in the middle of the Big Music Weeks of Summer, also offers Summer Music at Grace, Guys and Dolls at the Opera House at Enosburg Falls, and the 35th Annual Franklin County Field Days with nearly constant entertainment. There will be NO SUMMER SOUNDS CONCERT on July 31. To make up for it, Bay Day on Labor Day will feature Carol Ann Jones and the Superchargers playing right into the fireworks on September 4.
Please note: There is no Summer Sounds concert on July 31.
We urge the audience to attend one of the other exceptional
musical events that day.We host live free concerts (almost) every Sunday evening throughout the summer. The lineup of new performers and new sponsors includes a medley of bluegrass, country, folk, gospel, pop, and classic rock-n-roll. 2011 series will travel to Highgate and St. Albans Bay with nationally known performers. Each summer concert is free. Settle in on your own blanket or lawn chair and enjoy outdoor family music. Bring your own bug spray.
There will be no Summer Sounds concerts in St. Albans City in 2011. The city remains in arrears for prior concerts.
"Free" concerts are expensive to stage. The host towns, local business sponsors, and the All Arts Council hire the bands, create the publicity, and set up shows every summer weekend. Summer Sounds welcomes our sponsors of this popular series: Chevalier Drilling, Drummac Septic Service, O. C. McCuin & Sons, and Ray's Extrusion Dies. These businesses need your support to continue. Please remember to thank the hosts and patronize the sponsors.
Besides the music, food is a big part of the fun of an outdoor concert. Local community groups will host each event with special activities, family fun, bake sales, grilled hot dogs, and even ice cream socials to make every Sunday a great family holiday in the park. This year, the AAC, Foster Grandparents, Highgate Library, Highgate Historical Society, Highgate Volunteer Fire Department Auxilliary, the Kid's Culinary Academy, St Albans Recreation, and Special Olympics host the concerts in each town. Watch this space for the details.
